I think Palomino was better than Corrales, but I wouldn't call either great.

Palomino was a good step above Corrales imo. The only edge that Corrales had was p4p power. Corrales gets heavily overrated these days and I loved watching him fight. X is right l think. Duran would have put him in a wheelchair. Far too easy to outthink, hit and hurt.

Hearns-Cuevas and Hearns-Duran although they were early KOs were two of the best examples of an ATG just getting beat easily and badly.

    Hopkins-Trinidad.

    Whitaker-Chavez to some degree.

Forrest-Mosely depending on how you rate Mosely.

Jones-Toney has been cited here and possibly best example in thread.

I honestly think he's kind of underrated. Guys was destroying pretty much evey b fighter he faced. Struggled against the better ones, but that's prt of the game and he more than handle himself (bar against pbf)

It's more about Palomino being underrated.

He was extremely unfortunate to be around in the Leonard, Benitez, Hearns, Duran era.

You rank Nonito higher in terms of greatness than Corrales ? How so? I think people forget just how good Corrales was because how silly he looked against Mayweather. I attribute that more to Chico being weight drained than anything else. No fighter had as much toughness and grit as Corrales. Now pay attention. You say he's not quite great but he's the guy who beat the guy(Castillo) that arguably handed Mayweather his only loss.

Yeah that's a little hard to picture chico making a comeback considering he died in a motorcycle accident in 2003. Lmao

One argument could be that Nonito was p4p top-3 level fighter for a moment whereas Chico was never close to that

I dont think it even warrants an argument. Donaire is a class above Chico. Period.

I was at the fight when he fought Mayweather and over the week it was even money then on fight night Corrales was a slight favorite. People who don't know boxing don't have a clue what a beast Corrales was. He would destroy Teofimo, Lomachenko, Davis and all of today's scrubs. Unfortunately there was some monsters in and around his weight class at that time. But still managed to have a good career and beat some great names like Castillo, Freitas, Casamayor, Manfredy and even handed Coach Robert Garcia his first loss lol. I really don't have a problem with people saying he wasn't great but I don't feel Donaire is on a different class than Corrales.
