An incredible fighter, no doubt one of those most freakishly gifted. Very skilled and full of heart too.
I doubt what he did will ever be repeated. I remember when he first moved up to featherweight I picked against him because I thought he'd be too small! It was a mind boggling ride
Most of his opponents made the mistake of thinking he was too small as well. Then they found out it wasn't just speed but those punches kind of hurt too.
Pac is given PLENTY of love in MMs. I'll cite you an example: Just two days ago I posted a thread, and most people agreed that Pac would beat Chavez, George said that Pac possibly blows out Aaron Pryor, and I admitted that of those three (Pac, Pryor, Chavez) Pac is the only one with a realistic chance of beating peak Duran. I'd say that's giving him plenty of credit in MMs.
I wasn't talking about you but about our (including mine) general tendency to lower fighter's ranking as the fighter himself grows old. This phenomenon is visible when you compare threads like Pac vs Mosley created in 2009 and the same thread from 2019. We are more ready to recognize a fighter as an all-time great than to pick him over past legends in a MM. Usually we can judge a fighter better after a decade has passed from his retirement. I agree with Hut that in the future Manny's achievements will be looked back in even more astonishment than they are now
Agreed, I enjoyed Roy's (and even Floyd's) style much more but his resume and willingness to fight the best speak for itself.
Pac is either favored, or a live dog against anyone in the history of 122-140, which is astounding if you think about it. Once you get to 147, I think he's well outgunned by big, elite welters like Leonard, Robinson, Hearns, Gavilan, ect.
I don't have any question marks about his greatness - I don't feel that way with many modern fighters. He consistently defied expectations. He went into the Barrera fight as a live underdog but still an underdog and he absolutely took Barrera apart. He went into the DLH fight and no-one expected him to do well - he was too small. He took DLH apart. Even when he fought Keith Thurman, he wasn't supposed to win that. Only disappointment was the Mayweather fight and the disappointment is as much that it didn't happen when it mattered the most. His rep is totally secure.
It was a great ride…from Barrera to Morales to Marquez to DLH to Hatton to Cotto and everyone in between and afterward… The most destructive force in the last 20 yrs….
A truly mean spirited big-headed little cheat. He will be missed by Balco and friends who found him useful.
Oscar was fucking dead when he fought Pac. He looked like one of those fuckin concentration camp dudes, with the big head and the wasted body. Come on. It's all phony rigged BS. "I'll fight anyone!! At 143.4 lbs.!! Anywhere.....in Vegas!! Anytime......after they come off a hard fight/out of retirement!! I hate needles!! "
Nah they are making better drugs all the time. Ask JMM, he took some, got the oily hair and the beeg mussels, and blew his man out of there.
After Jake Paul wins a re-match with Woodley he'll get coaxed out of retirement for $30 million to destroy that typist
One of the most exciting fighters of the past 20 years. All action guy. But I suspect he’ll fight again.
You think so dude? I'm not sure I see it myself unless it's a silly money-maker bout like McGregor or something. This one feels final to me. Also, welcome back bro, good to see you!
Not for a fight against a legit top guy but I think the fight with McGregor can happen, still. I could see it going down next year. Good to see you as well, bro.
