What a fight from both Fury and Wilder. I thought it was a pointless rematch but I’m so glad they made it happen and produced a classic. Great stuff.

Was sloppy as hell, but what a fight. Even if it was one sided, Wilder was always in it and trying.

    Hugely enjoyable but sloppy.

Better HW fights of recent times?

Yes. There have not been many.

To be frank, I didn't think it was a particularly entertaining fight either. I was absolutely raving in the forth, simply because for Wilder to turn it round, was extremely surprising. I expected Wilder to go down, and after Fury got up, it went back to being sloppy and boring IMO. I just didn't enjoy Fury leaning on him and falling into clinches after every long, scuffing right hand. His uppercut was pretty good but ultimately, Fury's pressure was so messy it ruined what could've been a great fight. Especially given how back-and-forth it went when Wilder let his hands go.

Now, there's been two things which have been getting on my fucking nerves regarding this fight. The first is people saying Wilder looking the best he's ever looked.

I am convinced these people are blind.

Wilder looked like absolute shit. At 36 years old, 20lbs over weight and coming off an eighteen month layoff; he was clearly not quick on his feet, not nearly as explosive as he was back in the first Fury fight; had even worse stamina than he used to; and still hadn't recovered from his . The idea he was improved because he was bigger and stronger, and he has "made a great adaption" because he threw seven jabs and nine crosses to the body and abandoned it after two rounds. Wilder was a much, much better fighter a few years ago, and IMO, peaked between 2016-2019.

Both Fury and Wilder looked like shit.

The second think is people saying Tyson Fury is now a certified great. A win over an old Deontay Wilder does not make you an all-time great :Jest:

So is it fair to say that the fight was not "one of the gratist of are times?"

I thought it was a lot of fun but hardly the super amazing best ever fight being claimed.

It was one of the great fights i ever saw live. Not necessarily the best, cause it was a bit one sided and sloppy, but it was edge of the seat stuff, cause you knew a punch could end it

Nobody becomes Great by losing. Closest anyone came is Ray Robinson vs Joey Maxim.

Honestly, Kellerman coukd fuck up a cup of tea.

Great fight, great drama, great bravery but neither man became A GREAT off the strength of last nights fight.

Now, if Wilder comes back and wins a title, yes, he COULD yet BE A GREAT.

But for the time being, last night's fight was just a great fight.

    That's all.

It was hugely entertaining. My heart was pounding at the end of the 4th. One of the great thrills in sport has always been watching a man on dead legs and seeing if he can reach the bell to recover.

When you watch these things live, they're magic.

When you rewatch them, you can see things you didn't see beforehand.

It was a great live spectacle of contrasting fluctuating emotion and fortune.

I dunno who Fury beat up worse last night, Wilder or MMA.

A cagefight hasn't gotten this level of attention all year.

Canelo and Fury are the two biggest stars in combat sports.

Dana White is too arrogant to comprehend that stars make the brand, not vice versa.

There's nobody in MMA like Wilder, never mind Fury.

    Fury's been a champ since 2011.

Who in MMA has that staying power?

No one. It's not a sport built on staying power.

Hence, probably why Dana puts the brand ahead of the fighters.

You had just about every major celebrity posting about last night; especially The Rock, which is important because I think The Rock has the most social media followers of anyone on the planet.

You never see cagefights getting that level of attention.

Yes as much as I dislike Wilder for being the biggest asshole in boxing I can't deny he and Fury make for exciting fights. And hell yes it was one of the best hw title fights of recent times. According to Dan Rafael in terms of significance this trilogy is right up there with the Thrilla in Manila. And he pointed out that unlike trilogies like Ali-Frazier and Holyfield-Bowe all 3 Wilder-Fury fights were fought for the linear hw championship.

I don't know why people take anything Dana White says about boxing seriously. Ofcourse he's going to shit on boxing and praise mma. Just a guy promoting his brand(ufc/mma). Wouldn't expect anything less from him.

Given the knockdowns and the conclusive finish it has to rank up there pretty high....in terms of skill & rewatch value i dont think it holds a candle to holy-bowe 1 but its high praise that i even mentioned it in the same sentence. Excellent high stakes, high drama, high commitment fight

Very hard to generate longterm excitement in a sport which involves sitting on people's faces and slapping them while a bald podcaster screams in the background.

And Masvidal tweeted out too last night.

You won't see Canelo tweeting when Masvidal kicks somebody in the fanny lol

    This in a nutshell.

As a self contained live spectacle it was dynamite.

Its historical context is far lesser.

But I can live with that.

And yeah, as I've said last night, sloppy but entertaining. As Irish said, the fact that a quick ending was always possible put me on the edge of my seat. It was a great sloppy fight. It reminded me of Foreman Lyle but twice as long.

    Ha ha lol

    He's grasping now, too.

Hatton vs Castillo: "Castillo was shot"

Joe Cal vs Roy: "Roy is making Joe look like Tito Trinidad. Shot Roy is faster than Joe"

Fuck knows what he said during the Hopkins fight.

And another thing.......... for YEARS HBO made big fights with

    *Floyd
    *Canelo
    *Ward
    *Pacquaio

......where an integral part of the fight was a fighter being dragged UP or dragged DOWN to a certain weight, very often a totally arbitrary weight which was determined not by any sense of fairness or decency or sportsmanship but rather by a total abuse of bargaining power where the weaker party was forced to burn down or move up.

    Examples;- sure, I got the receipts;

*Floyd vs Hatton, took place at Floyds preferred weight of 147

*Pacquaio vs Cotto, took place at a totally invented catchweight that clearly hurt Cotto and was iintended to.

*Pac vs Oscar. No sympathy for Oscar, but he was forced down having fought as high as 154 vs Floyd the year before.

    * My favourite: Floyd vs JMM, no better example. Floyd did what the fuck he wanted and incurred a financial penalty to gain a far more important advantage on the scales. Of course part of an unequal bargaining power is abusing it and an important part of abusing it is BEING ABLE to abuse it, which as the richer man, Floyd was.

*Ward vs Dawson, where Dawson not only was dragged down to a weight he was patently uncomfortable at, but Ward got the plaudits for monstering the "Bigger" man. The guy was fucking dead at the weight.

Then throw in the fact that these guys all had one form of allegation or another hanging over them regards PED's.

And this is all Kosher. It's all justifiable. No problems.

Until a fat man comes along and starts throwing Wilder - 6'7" 230lb Wilder- around like a rag doll.

"Oh, it's the weight, it's unfair, he's too big, Wilder is really better"

    FACK OFF.

We've had all sorts of people ON THIS FORUM defend this fucking shit.

I won't mention any names, Reed.

SO, fuck you Max, and your fanboys and the scrawny ponies you rode in on.

Tyson Fury NEVER forced anyone to come in at a certain weight, he never forced anyone to put on or lose weight to suit him.

He comes in fat and slaps them about, regardless.

    DEAL WITH IT.

The very irony of this cunt and his fanboys JUSTIFYING abuses of bargaining power on the scales and then suggesting that it is Tyson Fury whose body of work needs to be re-evaluated in light of his allegedly "UNFAIR" size advantage.

Fuck right off, fuck right off, and when you get there, fuck off some more, Max.

I was literally gonna describe it as a 'drawn-out Foreman-Lyle'. Not a bad thing to be
