Given his age, his complete lack of skill to fall back on, and the fact that he's taken back-to-back brutal beatings, is Wilder finished as a top heavyweight? I'd have to favor clowns like Whyte and Ruiz over him at this point, though I think Wilder would have beaten those guys pre-Fury.
Nope. He'll be back. And I give him a good chance of winning against some sub-Fury/Usyk level opposition.
Mentally/psychological he's broken.....but I will still make him a favorite over anyone in the division other than Fury....his punching power is still a fight changer. 2 or 4 easy fights within 2022...then someone like Whyte/Joshua..
He's finished at an elite level until the "ELite Level" is redefined by his backers/sponsors as something else. He had 2 years between beatings and no beatings prior to that, so the damage shouldn't be permanent or career ending. All damage is permanent, he'll have a rough 2nd half of his life, but that's another matter. He's finished with Fury. Simple fact is he lost 3 straight fights. Might have won 4 rounds.
Well, if Fury somehow drops a match to the man who was out-boxed by Shawn Porter, then Wilder, provided he beats some stiff, just waltzes his way into yet another title shot
The FAKE Black Panther/Ali Wannabe Schtick is Gone Forever, But Wilder Would Still Beat Joshua in REED’s Opinion… In Fact, Aside from Fury and Usyk, REED Would Favor Wilder Over Any Current Heavyweight… REED
I would still favour him over anyone not named Fury or Usyk and even against Usyk I'd be interested to see what would happen if he could land flush.
The type of beating Wilder took on Saturday really ruins guys, especially considering he's 35. I think Wilder might walk away.
I don't see a reason why he'd be finished. He has had plenty of fights, but a vast majority of them have been quick and easy bouts, and he didn't have long amateur career either. This latest bout was brutal, but not exceptional: people have returned from worse. Also, I'd pick him over everybody but Fury (also Usyk) so he doesn't have a reason to retire either. Of course if his confidence got shattered, that's different, but to me Wilder seems like a guy who can protect his ego, even with ridiculous excuses if needed. His behavior after the rematch was comical, but be as it may, he was much closer to victory in the rubber match
He's all the USA has at 200+ and for so long as that is the case he will stay and make money. I see him fighting Helenius next.
Is this the first time Britain has had more Heavyweights in the top 10 than the USA? That Basketball and Football stuff must be really popular!!!
The NFL & NBA dominate US sports - no other sports are close in the US. Baseball is a very distant third.
I think boxing's popularity in America is growing. It's not gonna regain the level of popularity it had in the 40s-80s, that's just not realistic, but I feel boxing is more popular in the US in 2021 than it was in 2011. Just a feeling. Fury and Wilder are basically household names after Saturday, and Canelo is a household name. Ryan Garcia is very popular among young people, and Tank Davis is popular in the Black community. 10 years ago, only Floyd & Pac were household names. So, there is an overall improvement imo.
I think Boxing in the USA is in good shape, I never wanted to suggest otherwise. But I think the Heavyweights are at their worst ever. I think Wilder could have picked up a title from around 80-86 and 94-Present. And he'd have picked up titles 1900-1930 too. He might well have sparked Marciano too. I don't see Patterson beating him. Liston would. I would pay $99.99 to watch Big Cat Williams vs Wilder. Of course it is so hard to tell, as literally the ONLY HW's under consideration for so long were American, an odd South American, a couple of Brits and an odd Euro. But I do think that American boxing will now undergo a nationwide renaissance once you are paying $10 for a gallon of gas. Get that old hardship back, you will soon see Champions coming out of the woodwork.
Fury’s the Only Fighter to Truly PUNISH Wilder Though… Ortiz Landed Some Good Shots, But Those Were Really the Only 2 Guys to Touch Wilder Up Consistently… REED Thinks Wilder’s Good for Another 3-5 High Level Fights… REED
Wilder will get stopped provided he fights anybody decent in his next fight. How many times do we all have to see the same thing? Guys just don't recover from definitive beat downs. Fury's punches looked flat to me and not very heavy and every time he touched Wilder it was like he was hitting him with a baseball bat. That and the confidence that tends to give fighters incredible resilience is going to be gone as well. First time he was hit clean he was ready to go, possibly residual effect from the 2nd fight.
Physically he should be ok, but he might be broken psychologically. He can KO anyone he lands flush on but if you keep him on the back foot, his power is useless. You have to wonder if fighters will be able to pull a page out of Fury’s book when they go against him.
Welcome Back MOTOR CITY! REED Thinks Fury's HEIGHT, LENGTH, SKILL LEVEL and PHYSICALITY were Wilder's Undoing...And There's NO ONE Else in the Division w/All of those Attributes... No, Fury's Punches DON'T Look Like Much, But He's a 6'9, 270lb Man Punching DOWNWARD @ His Target More Times Than Not...He's Throwing/Landing DAMAGING Blows Bruh... REED
Glad to be back, been lurking for a good 10-11 years. I agree Fury is big enough to hit hard even with arm punches. The few times he really got off they did look damaging but his power in general seemed decent to me, not spectacular. Not quite Vitali-esque but the same idea of thudding shots but not get you out of there shots. Same with Andrew Golota obviously heavy but just not devastating at all. It is hard to say with Wilder because the only other really good fighter he fought was beating him badly and was on the verge of stopping him the first fight. All these shots and knockdowns, along with diminished confidence leads me to believe that the same will happen to Wilder but sooner if he gets in there with a Whyte type fighter. Of course pre this last fight I might take Wilder over AJ and the rest of them. Now I'm not so sure.
I respect Wilder for the reasons he got into the sport and making the most of it despite his obvious limitations, providing for his daughter and everything. All power to him. He always struck me as likeable but a bit dim and goofy, but somewhere along the line recently he's become really shitty, saying some distasteful stuff, poor sportsmanship, getting caught up in that racist LDBC stuff. His ego is out of control.
Wilder comes from a state that has the longest history of persecuting and killing Blacks as any state in in the history of the US, and it's STILL the most backwards state in our country. Not excusing the LDBC stuff, just trying to make you understand. Alabama has far and away the worst school system in the US, and that contributes to Wilder being low IQ. I don't think Wilder hates White people, he was only echoing the LDBC because they are literally HIS ONLY FANS. However, I think Wilder has always been a prick - people were just blinded by that because of the story of his daughter. Wilder is arrogant, but it's not the charismatic arrogance of Mike, Ali, and Fury. It's a very hateful arrogance. Well, probably hateful because those three are great fighters, and Wilder is garbage. No one likes to see a cocky bum.
No I get that, and I don't think he hates white people either, but some of the more messed up stuff he's been saying recently does appear, like you say, to be parroting the LDBC crowd. I guess because they were the only ones backing his excuses (glovegate etc) he just went all in with it.
And the LDBC doesn't even support Wilder for being Wilder. They just cockride any Black Amercian fighter. I think Wilder is probably hurt that he was never a loved champion like an Ali or Tyson. He tried to be! He tried to copy Ali's poetic trash talk, he tried to play off Joe Louis' nickname, and he tried to steal Mike's "Baddest Man on the Planet" moniker. It just didn't work.
A Pro-Black faction of boxing fans that have gained notoriety on social media. They shamelessly root for any and all American black fighters, and shamelessly hate on any non-American Black fighters. They were the ones helping Wilder push all his crazy conspiracy theories. The LDBC guys aren't real boxing fans, and they make REAL Black fight fans like REED and myself look bad. REED and I are guys who will root for any fighter, regardless of race. If Alexis Arguello fought Adrien Broner, the LDBC would root for Broner, purely because he's an American brother.
