Even boxing is way bigger than football in the States, and boxing isn't even mainstream here.

Your average American would recognize Fury's face before they recognize Messi's.

Floyd and Pac are very recognizable to every American. I dont think any footballer is.

That first half was electric yesterday....starting to feel absolutely CHAMPION about this sellik team's trajectory, I dont even think it'll be close come May.

I mean our main striker is such a grafter he starts helping out the stadium cleaners when he's subbed off. MINDSET

Talking of hard grafting strikers: apparently cr7 currently has the lowest pressing stats of any attacker in the whole premiership. When Man Utd lose the ball he just.....stands there.

Can't see a foul there. Presuming the ref restarted play with a scrum on the 10m line?

Isn't CR7 supposed to be an arrogant cunt? He certainly has the face of an arrogant cunt.

I'm seeing from a lot of online comments that the original Ronaldo from the 90s was better than him.

A lot of the Shearer stuff is revisionist, to be fair. When he joined NUFC, we had just barely lost a title challenge. He was intended to be the last piece of Keegan's prize winning jigsaw.

Yeah he's definitely an arrogant cunt. I think original Ronaldo could have been better if it weren't for some serious knee injuries suffered in his prime but I think Cristiano has to be considered better for what they actually did in their careers. I wouldn't argue with anyone who says original Ronaldo was more talented though, the guy was an absolute beast.

Yeah definitely agree with that, Newcastle were the only serious challengers to Man Utd when Shearer signed.

I noticed that against Liverpool. He was shocking and petulant, just throwing his hands up and whining whenever an attack broke down. United actually pressed pretty well early doors but then just stopped. They would have lost anyway as Liverpool are just a much better side but they didn't half make it easy for them.

How good was Andy Cole? Same level as Shearer?

No, but he wasn't far below imo. Cole was an absolute beast for NUFC. Our record goalscorer in one season.

Cole was indeed excellent but he unfortunately did irreparable damage to his legacy because of this:

Cole might be half a notch below the absolute best premiership strikers but were Cole & Yorke its best ever strike partnership? They had a 'more than the sum of the parts' telepathy going for a while

His partnership with Beardsley was better. Aesthetically and statistically. He even says so himself, every time someone asks him.

Cole and Yorke were fabulous, mind.

Saw that Monchengladbach raped Bayern in the ass 5-0. Apparently biggest loss since 1978. Being it was an early rounds cup game i figured maybe Bayern fielded something of a reserve team. Checked the lineups and no, same squad you're likely to see in the Champions League.

What's the deal with Platini? Seems he's one of the GOATs, and also one of the sport's most crooked figures.

Its a shame that it is forgotten how great Platini was and how cool that French team was that won the Euros in 1984. Fernandez, Platini, Tigana...
