Canelo vs Plant: Final Predictions, Discussion, RbR

Sounds about right

 

I am telling you all, this guy Plant is a fucking dog and a phony.

He will look for a way out and he will take it when it comes.

In between, sure, he will do some looting, but once PD show up with the 10 Gauge....expect Ol Caleb to haul more ass than a bus full of Playboy Bunnies.

 

Plant is getting annihilated.

Before six. Guaranteed.

 

Plant is what I always called a "Beltholder".

He's like Frankie Liles or Thomas Ulrich.

He has a "Title" and that is it.

 

I don't get the Plant dismissals. I don't want nearly as much boxing as I used to, but I've seen enough Canelo and Plant to know that Plant has advantages in certain areas.
Whenever a guy has any advantages, shit can happen.
What are his advantages? Height, reach, work rate, youth, maybe hand speed. He also has a nice variety of punches which might lead to actually hurting Canelo.

They are both natural fighters. Canelo has learned the art of the juice so I don't care if he's the favorite, but I will not be surprised if Plant wins this or at least deserves it.

 

Far closet to Ulrich than Liles IMO.

 

If Plant earns it, he can have it. But he won't, and so he can't.

The feeling here is that he has come into the ring with a "damage limitation" philosophy.

If he goes balls to the wall and backs Canelo up before he runs out of steam, fine.

But we all know he won't, He'll go walkies after a while.

 

In skills yes, but Liles had that WBA belt for 5 years and made 3 defences I think.

He simply wasn't involved in the sport, in any real sense.

Who is Caleb Plant? He's Canelo opponent.

That's it. He's won the lottery so to speak.

He was not trying to forge an independent path for himself, rather he was trying to converge with Canelo, to get paid.

 

Frankie Liles was a helluva lot better than Plant.

 

I am not saying he wasn't.

I am saying he wasn't into boxing.

He wasn't trying to forge a real reputation or a career.

Rather, just going through the motions.

Plant is playing a role.

 

Like David Haye. Haye was better than Plant. Or Ulrich. And probably Lyles too.

But he was always trying to get something for nothing.

Plant, to his credit, is dedicated to boxing. He's a gym rat. Thats not his issue.

His issue is that he fights in a Roy/Ward hybrid style without the ability of Roy and Ward.

 

He's not gone on the road. He's not moved up. He's not very active. He's not promoted himself or developed himself into a major local attraction.

And, as you say, hes trying to be something hes not, which is the classic modern affliction of young men everywhere today.

It's rare that a big fight has such a small feeling to it.

 

There is boxing on youtube now, Live, not much of a card but its free. Don't know whether it is live in the USA.
