People that are there for all 12 and can take you out at any given point. That's quite a scary thought having someone come at you and you know you can't hurt them and they can take you out at any time.. Tyson Best example. Plus he had speed. Stamina was ok but not great. To be fair his style was very taxing. Tua. Chin and power were there but extremely slow on the feet and fought with a kind of if you don't bother me I won't bother me attitude. Golden cross dresser . Chin, power and gay . What a scary combo. Foreman ? I was gonna put Foreman 1.0 but I'm not so sure about 1.0's chin. 2.0 probably suits this better. His power was there but he was just so slow.. I guess 2.0 should be here Don't even try listing v. Klit . Chin yes but definitely no to power Who else?
Robinson would be the very best example.. One punch power in either hand, blistering handspeed, granite chin.
Hagler had an iron chin and had good power. More likely to break you down patiently and methodically but he took out his share of guys in the early rounds. JCC had heavy hands, great ring cutting ability, and slipped punches effectively. If you hit him clean, he was likely to take them very well, thanks in part to his abnormally sized cranium.
Marciano, Tua, are good picks. Vitali kind of but more a wear-you-down. Ali needs to be looked at. Took Foreman out after taking a beating. Stopped Frazier very very late. Stopped Bonavena and Wepner very late having absorbed their limited efforts but they were still 15 round fights and he ended them late. He took what the dangerous Lyle had to offer before stopping him late.
ggg is underrated. has legitimate win and arguably two over sport's p4p #1 fighter. put it this way, if he'd been mexican he would still be undefeated
Im not sure i would call him underrated. He basically fought evenly against every top guys he faced (he could easily have lost or draws against der and jacobs). Considering he was once viewed as p4p #1 for boasting out scrubs, i think hes a bit overrated
I don't know if I'd call GGG underrated or overrated, I'm quite ambivalent about him. He did however beat the current p4p #1 twice imo. I know a lot of people like to say Canelo won the rematch but that fight was easy to score, the rounds had clear winners for the most part and Golovkin won more of them.
I had both GGG-Canelo fights draws, so I basically agree. A past prime GGG was on par with the pound-for-pound number one, and despite what the Canelo groupies on ESB like to claim, there hasn't been much improvement in his game since GGG II. Parts of his game have almost completely devolved and been abandoned.
Thinking about it, canelo has to be up there for current fighters. Never been dropped and punches like a mule, especially at the higher weights
Yes I'd agree. He can clearly hit and I've only ever seen him seriously hurt the one time against Cotto's brother, which was one of those situations that can happen to any fighter.
Relative to his hype, Golovkin was overrated. That doesn't mean he wasn't excellent, he was. But he was thrown up on a Jones/Hagler/Monzon pedestal, which he never deserved. I had him winning both Canelo fights though. The first quite clearly.
He didn't go the distance in any of his losses but with the exception of his last two fights where he basically just gave up, you had to beat seven shades of shit out of Tyson before he finally went.
Yep, lewis especially had to gave him a tremendous beating before koing him. Tyson had a granite chin.
How Many EARLY KO Losses Did Mike Have? 1-Punch KO Losses? Douglas, Holyfield and Lewis SHIT KICKED Mike for Several Rounds Before He Finally Wilted… If You REALLY Think Mike Tyson Didn’t Have a CHIN, You Truly DON’T “Know Your Boxing”, as You Like to Say… But Whatever… REED
The thing about Tyson is I can't picture him getting ko'ed in the first round no matter what. His chin was granite. The ko losses came from prolonged round after round beatings combined with Mike being gassed out. Tyson's style was extremely taxing on stamina. Once you're tired and beat up you're going down and out. Just like Ali put George away. Lastly Tyson's style caused him to walk into a ton of shots and as we all know head on collision is twice the impact. If Mike sat back and chilled in fights like Tua he'd never be ko'ed.
100% agreed, while Tua did have a granite jaw, a significant reason why he was never koed is that, unlike Mike, he was tamed relatively easily once he ran into a couple of big punches. Not really a dig on Tua though as Tyson ferocity was matched by very few fighters in history.
The best examples of this in today's game aside from GGG, IMO, are: Sor Rungvisai, Inoue and Donaire. Arguably Beterbiev and Smith Jr. but I wouldn't argue either have granite chins, just good ones.
Inoue seems to fit the bill but hasn't been chin checked enough to know for sure imo. Donaire has a good chin but I wouldn't consider it granite considering the way he was wiped out by Walters.
I don't see how you can say that. We already know both Inoue and Donaire have paralytic, one punch power, and they both took absolute bombs off one another. No other BW in the world - or arguably since McCullough, or before that to someone like Canizales - could've stood up to either of their arsenal's that night IMO.
Betterbiev has been on his ass a few times from single shot a.few times from b guys. Not ready to call his chin granite yet
