Kid Gavilan vs Donald Curry

Curry have a chance? Personally, I think Gavilan is the worst matchup for Curry of any welterweight.

Curry is fucked at either range. From distance, Gavilan was rangier, faster, and had a better jab. In close, Gavilan was much much better.

Intangibles, no contest. One of the toughest men in ring history against a front runner.

Any avenue for Don here?

 

As soon as I read the thread title, my first thought was actually 'wow, poor Curry'.

 

Curry has power but Gav has the chin to take it.

The Kid did have a reputation as a bit of a party animal from what I’ve read about him and he didn’t always take his fights seriously. That would be Curry’s best chance there.


But if Gavilan comes on his game, he’s simply too skilled and too TOUGH for Curry.

Gavilan via late rounds TKO.

 

Nice styles match up and I think Curry can give Gavilan a tussle but I just see Gavilan coming out on top. Too much guile and toughness.
