Firstly, this is not the first PPV I've ordered this year. I ordered Spence-Ugas. But more importantly... what makes you some moral authority on boxing? And what do you care what a man spends his money on? There were a number of posters on here who ordered Tyson-Jones, AND Mayweather-Paul. I sure as Hell wasn't gonna order either one, but I didn't judge anybody who did. It's none of my goddamn business what someone finds appealing enough to spend their hard earned money on. To each his own. The only thing that's weird is you judging it. It might also be a locational thing. The fight might have limited buzz in the UK, and on the West Coast in the States, but here in the NYC area (and I'm only 45 mins from the city), it's getting a lot of attention. Tank is a big name around here, so him generating ANY interest in boxing is a good thing for the sport.
X I thought you were from Central Jersey (like Princeton) which can damn well take near two hours to go to NYC
Tank talking to Raul Marquez: It's not enough to win. I wanna punish him. *Marquez has flashbacks to what Nano did to him*
I do live in Central Jersey (not Princeton). But fuck no! No where close to 2 hours away from NYC. An hour, tops. Maybe like an hour and 20 mins from Philly. I have relatively close access to both cities. I'll go to Sixers games, Knicks games, or fights at Barclays. Matter of fact I just took my kid to Philly Zoo last week. 2 hours for me would be Upstate NY.
It's no secret race plays a big part in boxing. Mexican fans and Mexican American fans are big supporters of Canelo and other popular Mexican fighters. I see nothing wrong with other nationalities supporting their country men. If I was a Tank Davis fan I would definitely buy this fight just to see a brutal Tank Davis knock out. I paid for Castillejo vs Delahoya and other crappy ppvs just cause I liked the fighters. But one thing I never did is hate on ppvs I didn't buy or called for boycotts or any of that nonsense. A Man has a right to decide what they are WILLING to spend their hard earned money on. And you're right it's nobodies business.
Its not race. I've said a million and one times I dont like Tank. I dont like Rolly either. But it figures to be an exciting fight. Is it a cultural difference? Perhaps. Like how Brook-Khan was a big deal in the UK, but no one was talking about it over here. I dont like Tank, but im alllllll for bringing attention to the sport; so long as its attention brought by an ACTUAL fighter and not a YouTuber. The Tank fight is the biggest sporting event of the weekend amongst EVERYBODY I know. For George over in the UK, I'm sure it's not like that.
BTW, to answer why Tank is more "interesting" than Canelo - because he's a lot lesser and more vulnerable, that's why. Canelo is an elite level fighter. Tank isn't even top 12 P4P. If Canelo were fighting a guy the level of Rolly, i would NOT order. There would be no chance of an upset. Tank aint good enough for me to 100% count out Rolly.
They would look at me like I had six heads if I brought up the CL final . Speaking of which, ill actually be at the barbershop in the morning. I'm sure the fight will be discussed. One of the barbers is actually taking Rolly.
You have to be careful. If double L was in that shop and overheard you discussing soccer you would be reported to HUAC and put into a detention center for propagating communism.
I'm trying not to look too deep into it, but Rolly looked the more intense of the two during the staredown. I feel like Tank shoved him because Rolly is in his head.
Well that’s the first stare down Rolly won. Tank look anemic I expect him to gain 15-20 lbs by tomorrow night.
Honestly, this kindof justification is totally unnecessary… Davis-Romero is objectively a more exciting matchup than Canelo-GGG3… it’s not even close! Comparing a rubber match where the first 2 fights proved that these guys can’t hurt each other and will simply chip away to an apathetic SD-type decision for another 12 rounds… vs a clear top5 guy vs a top contender just outside the top10.. in a stacked division loaded with talented guys. Yeah it’s a ‘mismatch’ but it carries intrigue. These guys are in their prime and both big punchers. We dont know what’s gonna happen or how, and the outcome could massively raise the stock of one guy and be a solid notch for the other. There’s actual buzz around this match.. Canelo-GGG3 feels like a blatant cash-grab to squeeze out that last few bucks from their names before they ride off into the sunset. Just no comparison…
Rolly, like it or not, would be live to upset Ryan. Its not theres tons and tons of lightweights who beat him. The division ain't thaattttt deep.
He got schooled by Jackson Marinez. Not a high bar for those to beat him. Ryan would smash him to pieces, just like Tank will tonight. Haney is the guy Rolly has the 'best' chance against; but even then his chance is small. Haney pieced him up in multiple heated sparring sessions.
Haney's better than Ryan and the future will show that. They fought on even terms in the amateurs, but Haney has done a better job at developing his game in the pros. Even if Tank smashes Rolly tonight, and I expect him to, I would still give a Rolly a shot against Ryan.
I thought Haney is the worst of the group. Always have. He looked poor against Linares, then failed to do literally anything in such a flat performance against Gamboa, and then looks mediocre against . I do think Haney is improving though, and I think the fact he actually fights often is what separates him from Ryan now. Ryan from before his long lay off had the tools to beat him IMO. He'd pay Haney's power - or lack thereof - no mind; and he's got the speed and power to set up the same shots Linares hurt him with. I'm convinced that Haney's chin is every bit as suspect as Garcia's; and it isn't like Haney hits harder than Campbell. But on the flip side, Ryan has so little ambition and failed to land more than five jabs against a fuckin farmer. I'm not really impressed by either. But they're both MILES above fuckin Rolly.
While I agree with this what did people say about Ali Vs Frazier 3? Frazier clearly by then was damaged goods, had lost the rematch with Ali and been blown away by the guy Ali had beaten to regain the title. Turned out to be wildly exciting and era defining. ...even when at the very belated moment the naysayers could finally declare "see, told you, total mismatch" Ali was busy collapsing in his corner and Frazier was being told to sit down. There's no doubt that GGG Vs Canelo is a contrived affair. But it could turn out to be a wildly brilliant affair as the younger fresher guy , who now feels he has a point to prove, takes risks against an older diminished foe who is still dangerous yet feels he is regarded too lightly.
