Devin "Lamar" Haney and George "The Mostest" Kambosos fight for all the undisputed chocolates June 5 at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. Who you got?
Uncertain, to be honest. Haney should be a favorite but he’s looked vulnerable to me and Kambosos is quick and awkward enough to catch him in exchanges.
Yeah it's a close fight on paper but if Haney is furreal I can see him win this. I think it's a question of whethr Haney can rise to the occasion and how far Kamboso is from that peak of the Fimo fight. Kamboso won't be facing the sort of reckless windmill he did Vs Lopez.
Also it's good this got made. Where 8s Lopez, what's his plans, to appear at ringside and chat mad shit afterwards to the winner?
‘I’m living rent free in his head’: Kambosos fires early shot at Haney “I pick, little stabs, and I see the triggers. And that was early, that triggered him very quickly. It was easier than triggering the Lopez team. This is going to be fun. By the time he actually steps inside Marvel Stadium, he will be that mentally exhausted . . . it will be a painful night for him,” Kambosos said. “He’s not mentally strong enough. I just saw it. No chance. I’ve mentally broken him already, I’m living in his head rent free. When he comes here, he not only has to deal with the crowd, but physically I will punish him. The more he talks, the worse it’s going to get for him.” Kambosos, the 20-0 Sydneysider, has dreamed this moment into a reality. He was supposed to be a mere pothole for Lopez, a heavy-handed slugger who had been knocking out opponents with spectacular regularity. But Kambosos was marching to a different tune. He had already told Australian media that not only would he win the IBF, WBA and WBO belts but his first defence would be a stadium event in his home nation. With Haney (27-0) now locked in, it has come to pass. Haney has fought in Mexico on multiple occasions but, like so many US fighters, a trip to Australia will feel like stepping out in another universe. They will arrive a month early to adjust, but Kambosos doesn’t really give much credence to Haney’s credentials on the road. Kambosos, on the other hand, hasn’t fought in front of friendly fans for five years. “They’ve never done it before. Their only trips have been to Mexico to fight some cab drivers. They talk about fights in Mexico, I could have fought them all in the one night and beat them. It doesn’t take much.” Kambosos is a proud Sydney fighter but Melbourne was the obvious choice on a number of fronts. Marvel Stadium’s roof made sense for the June 5 date, and the city’s huge Greek population should need little encouragement to fill the stands and cheer for one of their own. It’s also a welcome return for elite boxing in a city that loves to think of itself as a global sporting capital. If Marvel comes even close to a selling out its 53,000 seats, it will be Melbourne’s biggest bout since the rematch between Jeff Fenech and Azumah Nelson at Princes Park in 1992, which attracted 40,000 fans. Kambosos was a sparring partner for Manny Pacquiao before his loss to Jeff Horn at Suncorp Stadium and insists Marvel, with its cavernous feel underneath its sliding roof, will deliver a superior experience. Now all he has to do is beat an opponent who he insists will be so far out of his depth that he might sink before the fight even begins. “I’m such a better boxer from what I was in the Lopez fight. I’m in my prime, just coming into it. My numbers, my training, it’s on another level. That’s why I chase the best fights. I never lose track of my legacy.” Kambosos won his belts fair and square but questions remain over the WBC title, which Haney adopted after that sanctioning body elevated Vasiliy Lomachenko to a “franchise champion”. One thing has already become abundantly clear: the pair aren’t going to settle the matter via Twitter. “It will be good to finally put that nail in the coffin,” Kambosos said. “He didn’t have the pleasure of winning his belts in the ring. Now I’m going to take it off him.”
I think Kambosos Jr will win this based on his high workrate and also hometown favoritism. Props for Haney for willing to face Kambosos on hostile grounds with his title on the line.
First press conference was pretty boring but the face off got spicy. https://twitter.com/trboxing/status/1531080168336261125?t=1SuGuo5rXE5iuDuuQODS7A&s=19
I think Kambosos is severely overrated. If ‘Fimo had approached the fight with a shred of respect.. he’d have outboxed and possibly KO’d him. Instead Lopez went absolutely windmilling his way into the fight.. ran into a counter, and sadly that practically sealed the fight. I thought Lopez won regardless, he outboxed the crap out of Kambo for at least 8-9 of those rounds… and he scored a far more damaging KD. But the ‘shock factor’ of that first KD had long legs and it somehow seemed to give Kambo a free pass on any of the close rounds. The reality is that Lopez, once he calmed down and centered himself, easily won rounds. He knew he had to make an impression and he pushed and hurt Kambo.. basically another round and Kambo is laying down most likely. And this is the same Fimo who got schooled by Loma for 6 rounds once that guy actually started throwing. So how does a tactician like Haney NOT absolutely dispose of Kambosos? As Lomachenko would easily do.. as Lopez easily would do in a rematch where he doesnt play Mayorga from the start. As would Tank, Cruz, heck Jojo would be a pick’em with Kambosos. Just unbelievable how much this guy got overrated because of 1 flash knockdown against a reckless opponent who (rightfully) believed he could whoop him, but failed to construct a serious gameplan until he was already in a hole. I don’t think Kambo beats another top-5 guy, quite possibly not even another top 10 guy.
Yup. 100%. Kam has been absurdly overrated. Haney would have to beat himself to lose on Saturday. If he uses all his tools, there's a pretty clear separation in class between these two.
I don't think Kambosos is overrated.....he's fairly long odds compared to Haney, who is clear favourite. Most people think he's gonna lose this Saturday. Not one betting agency here in Australia has him as favourite. Doesn't sound overrated to me. By whom is he "absurdly overrated" exactly?
Kambozo is not bad, but I think Haney guves him a boxing lesson. Seems to me like a guy who needs to be in a brawl to shine, and we all know Haney will only gives him distance and angles comes fight night
Yep when someone sits down with Kambosos or comes at him, his mid range combos/handspeed and decent chin gives him an edge - an outboxer like Haney is his worst nightmare really. I fail to see how Kambosos will deal with Haney's rangey pivoty moves unless he can trap him against the ropes somehow.
I got Haney via decision but I would like Kam to win. I think Haney has too much skill but Kam hits hard enough to test his chin.
Kambosos does seem very confident in his ability to do some damage against Haney. Haney may be the more “skilled” boxer but Kambosos seems to have more determination and will. Also helps to have the hometown crowd by his side so I think that would boost his energy as well. Haney deserves nothing but respect for doing what most fighters won’t do, going to the opponents hometown and putting his title on the line. Wouldn’t surprise me if he shocks the hometown crowd.
Yeah, he's got a good counterpunch but seems to struggle when someone plays it safe and fightson the outside. Bad news for him as Hayney is someone who doesn't give a damn about stinking up the joint. Weird weird fight to take for his homecoming imo but I've gotta give Kambosos huge credit for not milking his big win. He really seems intent on proving he's the best (which I don't think he is).
Good ol' Jake breaking the news that Haney's dad is allowed to train him at the last second, he got approved for a travel visa https://mobile.twitter.com/JakeNDaBox/status/1532612941815717895
I'm not seeing a Bosos path to victory outside of stopping Haney. Haney has been hurt before, so it's not an impossible feat, but I'm feeling quite confident in my Haney pick. I think he's gonna show the world how average Kam is.
Could be my imagination but Kam looks a little shook to me, which I hate seeing because I want him to win. But it seems like Haney has him a little psyched out and he’s trying to compensate by talking more and putting on his tough guy act.
I don't think Bosos is intimidated. Haney isn't a scary fighter I think both are confident, but there's just gonna be a talent and skill gap that Bosos won't overcome.
Oh BTW, turns out that Haney leaked information to Bosos last year that Teofimo had been seen out drinking and smoking hookah leading up the fight. Fuckin Teofimo! Just a lot of red flags going up around that guy.
I like Kambosos, well I like his attitude. You can tell he 100% backs himself every fight. I doubt he's intimidated. I do think Haney wins but I'm rooting for Kam.
