My only hope is Canelo goes in trying to "make a statement" and gets invoiced into the middle of next year.
sure is. Not often you see 24 rounds between guys with that much power, with no kd and no one even really hurt
There was a healthy degree of respect too. Everybody knew they'd pay a price to hurt the other guy so they abandoned the riskier aspects of their arsenal's. I see GGG abandoned some of his more reckless moves once Canelo started with that uppercut.
Its a smart move by canelo. Hell get paid a lot and he should win this one pretty easily. Which will help repais his damaged reputation
I see this similar to Dela Hoya moving up to face Bernard or Trinidad fighting Bernard it was a classic case of a good big man beats a good small man. Not sure how losing to a natural Light Heavy Weight that is a legit badass would hurt his reputation. Losing to Charlo or Andrade would be more damaging IMO.
Yes ans no. In a way, sure it would be cool to see GGG emphatically avenge the robbery in the 1st fight and get payback for all the unjust advantages Canelo got over his career. It would also put an exclamation point to a (fairly) great career. On the other hand, it would suck as Golovkin is pretty much the poster boy for the ''taking the least risk possible until a big money fight comes up'' philosophy. Canelo, as much as we can criticize him, has been consistently matched tough (with a few exceptions) and dared to be great. The contrast is even more telling if we consider that he is boxing's top draw while Golovkin barely registers (MSG merchandise sale excluded ).
Given it was GGG who got me hooked on boxing; and he was my favourite fighter for years - I'd love him to knock Canelo out. Even if I've grown to Canelo over the last year or so; GGG winning and then immediately retiring would be absolutely brilliant.
I can see him pulling a Marquez and riding off into the sunset. Seems like a guy looking for one last big pay day. He's been looking old as hell.
I can't see the version who fought the Japanese statue winning the rubber match by decision or even KO unless Canelo is more badly affected by the recent drubbing than expected, to me he looked like he was running on fumes and struggling to pull the trigger a lot of the time
who did ggg not fight? i can't think of too many "big" names. maybe worst thing he did was stay put in a mediocre division.
Canelo lost clearly but i don't think he took much damage. Maybe to his ego, but nothing more. If Alvarez won that fight this matchup wouldn't even be happening which pretty much tells the story.
Typical boxing fans who cry that theres too many divisions, yet excuse a fighter for not going up a whooping 8 lbs in order to secure a big fight
REED Figured This Would Be Canelo's September Date... There was a 0% Chance of him Doing a RE w/Bivol and GGG's the Most BEATABLE Option of the NAME Fighters from '60-'68...Canelo Stops Triple G Late, via Bodyshots, or UD's Him 8-4, 9-3ish... REED Can't/Won't Blame Canelo @ All for NOT Entertaining a Benavidez, Charlo, Andrade, etc., Coming Off a LOSS... REED
so yeah, staying put in a mediocre division is definitely something people criticize him for. but can't think of too many you could claim he "ducked" at 160.
I'm a big JMM fan. I remember jumping up and down for Joy when he knocked out Pacquio. Plus I made a few bucks from a bet so it made it extra sweeter. But having said that Marquez took his win and never looked back. Since Pacquio gave him rematch after rematch the honorable thing for JMM to do would have been to run it back one last time. But He refused time and time again. Instead fighting guys like Bradley and Alvarado.
But but some people would rather spend their money on Rolly vs Tank. Lol(just kidding it was a good fight)
I think Golovkin’s best chance is Canelo’s aggression. If Canelo goes all out for the KO, that’s Golovkin’s best chance to KO him.
Good odds on ggg??? Im tempted to place some money on GGG too I had the same feeling before the bivol fight and even posted it was a fight Canelo could lose. Nobody picked Bivol here I think.
That brittish broad from dazn called this a fight between two generational greats. Xplosive would have had a bf if he heard that. Good thing hes not watching .
