Great...now we can move on I really REALLY want to see Wilder vs AJ and/or Wilder vs Usyk... Wilder can be outbox(Ortiz fights) Wilder is a human windmill yes...he has chicken legs yes...he believes every conspiracy theory yes...but the motherfucker can PUNCH...

I say he Ko's both AJ and Usyk...but I rather he fight AJ first because that definitely the easier fight..

    Short, effortless right.

While Helenius' chin isn't granite, that's still quite impressive display of power.

The Wilder PPV apparently did 77K buys. Certainly nothing earth-shattering, but with the ridiculius price of 74.99, with a shitty undercard and against an unknown opponent that's not a disaster either. Maybe Wilder is gaining some popularity

77k for the greatest puncher of all time and the top American heavyweight of the last decade?

I never really paid attention to boxing youtube like I mentioned in the other topic but apparently many of these podcast pundits are beginning to speak on haymons failures and how his fighters aren't getting any TV dates or making much bread anymore

    The jig is up

I've given up on the lot of them, not just Haymon.

Arum cared about making big, quality fights when he was younger, but the dude is a few years from death and doesn't care about anything now.

Hearn is a used car salesman who is smart enough to con boxing fans into thinking he wants big fights, but it's just a con. Hearn also brought us the YouTube fighter era, so fuck him.

    Oscar is a retard.

Haymon is indifferent about big fights. The guy is a total mystery, but what I suspect is that he's not as interested in boxing now as he was 10 years ago.

We're doomed. Being a boxing fan is basically like being a Lions fan.

The card was always expected to lose money. PBC wants to build Wilder up and this bout was only meant to get him a win, so that his next fight against Andy Ruiz would make profit.

In this context 77K is not a disaster. Had it been a title fight, it would be a different matter entirely

77k is a PATHETIC number, Ugo. It's putrid. Bad, bad, bad.

Independent of the card or the opponent; a star should do more than 77k.

"Build Wilder up?" This dude is in his late 30s and on the downside of his career. There's no ENHANCING his popularity at this stage. Wilder's popularity was at its peak when he uttered "to this DAY" which went viral among the youth. That popularity peak is long gone. Once you lose a few straight, this generation throws you out.

Wilder should sell more than 77k fighting me or you, much less an actual pro.

Its the money. Now that fighters are being paid big bucks to fight nobodies promoters can go even more out of their way to protect those Os.

I never thought I’d say that boxing was trash but it is. Just horrible.

The fact that Tank vs Ryan is getting made before Spence vs Crawford is just wild.

Haymon and PBC have quite frankly been awful to boxing. Major, major disappointment. The sooner it crashes the better. Did the same foolish mistake as HBO of overbidding themselves on meaningless fights.

Ruiz is the only bankable option for Wilder at this point, but even Wilder-Ruiz will only do mediocre PPV numbers.

This isn't a Wilder problem. Boxing is in trouble. I haven't said that in a long time prior to this year, because I usually defend the sport's future.

The sport needed Spence-Crawford BADLY! Even a ton of casuals I know were looking forward to Spence-Crawford. Now that it's off, those casuals are turned off from the sport.

We AT LEAST need a big time matchup like Davis-Garcia. But we know goddamn well that fight ain't happening either.

Our biggest star (Canelo) won't be elite for too many more years. Canelo's in slow decline.

    The sport's in bad shape.

My theory on HBO will always be the same. Their decision to leave boxing had little to do with Haymon or any other boxing entity.

HBO left boxing to compete with Netflix. Original content had become HBO's big money maker (starting with The Sopranos) and Netflix started making original content hits and presenting them in a far more accessible fashion compared to HBO.

So HBO drops boxing to pour all of its money and resources into... ding ding ding! HBO MAX.

Had nothing to do with overbidding for fights, or Haymon taking his crop to Showtime. Our sport is kinda small potatoes.

HBO would still be in the boxing game if Netflix never existed.

It's very telling that haymon and kery davis were good buddies

Xavier james goes from working for HBO to working for golden boy

Ryan Caldwell goes from working for Waddell Reed to working for pbc

    These aren't coincidental

I don't know if it's increased, but Haymon and PBC used to only get a budget of 50 mil a year. The only way they can make enough to keep fighters active is PPV; and it's because of the ridiculously inflated purses.

Yeah, I'm sure Haymon's plan all along wasn't to build an established, profitable promotional company (or whatever the fuck he calls himself) but just to make some quick bucks by swindling some suckers in overpaying his fighters (indirectly) so he could get a bigger cut...

77k is pretty bad. Historically heavyweights have always generated the biggest ppv numbers.(with exceptions of Floyd, Canelo and Dela Hoya). The fact that Wilder a former HW champ is doing those numbers could only mean he's not a draw anymore. Half the boxing fans thought Wilder was overrated. The other half were delusional ldbc types that believed Wilder was the next big thing.

But it seems like even his most hardcore nutlickers have jumped off the banwagon hence the extremely low ppv numbers. Can't blame Haymon he did his job in padding and Protecting him but now that hes been exposed

You brought up a good point. I remember when only the very best fought on hbo. There was a certain prestige about being an HBO fighter. They only wanted winners and they pressured them into fighting better competition. There was one interview when Merchant flat out asked Mosley when he would fight better competition after he koed a uk bum named Stone. And Mosley replied something along the lines of "well he's the xyz (paper belt)champion." And Larry said 'wow that's really something" lol. You dont see that kind of pressure on pbc. The cuddle their fighters having them fighting bums. dont want them to break a sweat and earn their paycheck. Meanwhile dumb boxing fans will pay for Rolly vs Tank.

the question is when will haymon pay davis for that ppv?
