Who is the best or worst fighter turned trainer or vice versa. I know Buddy was a fighter back in the day. Not sure if he was very good. What are some good examples.

1)Rocky Balboa (the Italian Stallion)- probably the most famous boxer that later became a trainer. Not sure if he was a good trainer since most of what he said was jibberish. But Tommy Gun wasnt too impressed with his training skills. His own son got beat up in school. You'd think a boxing coache's son would be able to throw down right? In conclussion Rocky wasa great fighter and a shitty trainer. He was no Micky.

    Roger Mayweather
    Buddy McGirt
    Roberto Garcia

Those 3 could fight and became good trainers.

Buddy McGirt was an excellent fighter.

Also, a shout to Eddie Mustafa Muhammad. I think Eddie peaked higher than McGirt as a fighter, and he was a quality corner man.

According to literature, Willie Pep was a shitty trainer. He couldn't understand how somebody wasn't able to do stuff that came so naturally for himself

Anne Wolf was a good female boxer(disclaimer not women's boxing fan) but as a trainer not too shabby. She trained the highly skilled Kirkland. Lol

That's why I appreciate Roy as a trainer.

He has enough common sense to realize that the guys he trains don't have the talent he had. He seems pretty patient with them.

It isn't some incredible feat of coaching, but he has done wonders with Eubank Jr.

Abel Sanchez was a highly accomplished trainer far before he paired up with current middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin

There's the aspect of common sense, and also a spesific talent. That is, the talent to verbalize the point you are trying to make.

Ray Leonard was obviously a fighter who knew all the moves. He probably didn't know them "instinctively" like some, but he could actually think and analyze what to do and when.

For some reason, he wasn't able to express himself as a commentator at all. It wasn't lack of intelligence, nor lack of common sense, but lack of other talent.

Roy seems to have it, and already did as a commentator

If all you knew of the career of Eddie Futch was Freddie Roach you would think that he was a shit trainer.
Turns out that Freddie learned a lot from Futch, even if it didn't express itself in the ring when he fought.

I like her training tactics....kinda a bitch that will have you doing 25-30 minutes of pad work in a sauna or a freezer...then soak your gloves in water and has you hit the punching bag for 30 minutes...

It’s not uncommon with great athletes. They lack the patience and get frustrated that others don’t have the same desire and ability that they did.

Magic Johnson tried to coach the Lakers and kept getting mad that the players weren’t driven like he was. He also got mad because Vlade Divac’s pager kept going off, so he took it and threw it against the wall and shattered it.
