Can't believe it's already been 10 years since this stunner took place. It was a helluva bloody fight that looked like both fighters could get stopped at any moment, until JMM found the right timing at the very last second of round 6. Just an absolute thrilling fight, incredible finish, and crazy KO. Made me sad to see Pacquiao brutally KO'd but also made me appreciate both fighters.
I think in part it's because it happened right at the end of the round. Those watching were already thinking about the next one. All of a sudden "boom!" and it's totally over. More importantly we had seen them battle back and forth in a great trilogy always "answering" each other. To see it end so abruptly was indeed anti-climactic even though it was by itself a great fight.
what's interesting about this fight is up until the knock out, it looked like pacquiao had finally figured JMM out. But in hindsight, maybe it was just JMM waiting for his chance.
The fight proved marquez was always better than pacquaio and is clearly the gratist mexican of all time I find it funny how ppl right him off based on "having pacquaio's number" He beat the guy 3 times in reality and at pacquaios peak roidage
It was great to see Marquez fill up on steds, set his feet and just try (successfully) to smack Pac's shite moustache off his clock so that the judges couldn't dry bum him again. Great ko.
Love Marquez. There's more chance of my Mum being the greatest Mexican than him though. Neil's been on the orange juice and sherbet again, the silly banana. Sorry Neil.
Pretty interesting timing how this fight was 10 years old and just a few days ago Tim Bradley was inducted to the IBHOF, who beat JMM coming off his huge KO win over Pac. Still impressed how Bradley managed to beat JMM in their fight, he knew that JMM still had some dangerous power in that right hand so he needed to outbox him to win.
Not gonna lie, it's a bit weird how you forge those little narratives in your head and expose them as facts when they're is no basis for them in the real world. It was Pac who was pushing hard for a 5th fight and Marquez, who decided to take his ball and go home after finally getting a win.
Great, great fight btw. After getting floored, Pac really seemed intend on ending the rivalry decisively and punish JMM. At the time though, everyone (me included ) was bitching about how we were sick of seeing those 2 go at it. Yet, we all had a 5th fight at the top of our wishlist as soon as it ended. But Marquez being Marquez, it never happened unfortunately.
