Before I read your post, I was thinking of Victor Ortiz = Teofimo Lopez. Not in the way of similar styles, just the career trajectory that I think Fimo will have.
Met some of Lopez's family in Vegas. Loud, fast talking Ricans that party. Had a feeling Kambosos would beat him and he did.
This is true. He's more accomplished than Victor. His trajectory toward becoming great remains doubtful, however.
You're now gonna try to make this into a Roy vs Duran thing, when my only point was: You can't compare Fimo with all time greats (i.e. Duran and Roy) who had sustained primes. Duran was a dominant fighter for damn near a decade. He wasn't past his prime until he hit his 30s. He was 73-1 coming into the Leonard fight. How in the world can you draw a connection between a consistently dominant fighter like a Duran, and a kid who as of now is just a one hit wonder? It's not a case of "shit happens." You built a strawman argument.
How is REED Making This a Roy vs. Duran Thing, Exactly???…Please ELABORATE???… When Duran LOST to Kirkland Laing, He Went On to BEAT Davey Moore and Iran Barkley…Lost CLOSE Fights to Hagler and Robbie Sims… Unless You’re Counting the WORST Versions of Jeff Lacy & Tito That Ever Existed, What MEANINGFUL Opponent Did Roy Beat, Post-Glen Johnson (Who YOU Brought Up, By the Way)???… REED Didn’t Build a Strawman Argument, YOU’RE Being the KNEEJERK REACTOR You’re Known For Being…Dude Doesn’t Look Good or Actually LOSES a Fight, X SHITS On Him…Rinse-Repeat…Mythical Matchup Post TRASHING the Dude… Just as You Did Canelo, Who You SWORE Was as Good as He was EVER Going to Get, After Facing Floyd…Still Waiting On You to Admit How WRONG You Were On That One Bruh… You DON’T Like ‘Fimo Anymore…Cool…We All LIKE/DISLIKE Fighters…But Writing Him Completely Off at 25 is Senseless…Damn Near as Senseless as Completely Writing Off Canelo at 23… ANY Fighter That’s Lost to a LESSER Guy Can Be Compared to One Another…YOU’RE Creating a Strawman to Suit YOUR Own Argument, Simple As… It’s Tooooo Damn Early to Write ‘Fimo Off, Especially if He Hires a REAL Trainer… REED
I've said in the past that Canelo turned out to be better than I thought he would be. I've never had any issue when admitting I got it wrong on a fighter. In fact, I usually come straight out and admit when I'm wrong on a prediction or on a fighter's career path. I don't take being wrong at times in boxing personal, it doesn't bother me. You're beating a dead horse bringing up the Canelo situation, when I've pointed out multiple examples of how they aren't the same. You were the one who initially brought three all time greats into the discussion here in defense of Teo. I pointed out why the comparisons aren't accurate, or warranted for Teo. He hasn't proven enough to be held to that high a standard. As to your last point, there's no indication that he's gonna get rid of his daddy. IF he does, we'll see, but the path he's on now is dire. And on gonna go on record RIGHT NOW and say that I wouldn't be surprised if Teo beats Taylor, even with his daddy training him. Taylor is vulnerable himself.
It's quite comical btw to insinuate my grim Teo outlook has to do with me disliking him. I have a long track record of calling balls and strikes on a fighter whether I hate them or love them. You have no idea how many casuals I've ripped over the years for insisting that Tyson is the greatest fighter ever. Or how about the fact that I DEFENDED Wilder a few months ago when BOSS and Neil suggested he's not among the great heavyweight punchers? I don't let my personal feelings on a fighter cloud what I objectively think about them. Bud is probably my favorite fighter, but his career is a letdown. Canelo, I don't care for, but I admit he's a first ballot HOF and has done more than Crawford. Like/dislike has nothing to do with anything. I'm not up here openly rooting for Fimo's career to fail. The evidence we currently have, however, would suggest that its headed toward eventual failure without significant changes.
Lopez is as good as he will ever get. Think about it...he has had a pretty substantial level of success, made a lot of money. Would you want to be the new trainer going in and trying to tell him that he has been doing things wrong? That there are things that he could do better? Do you think that his father will ever not be the loudest voice in his ear? Any new trainer that would step into that situation would the biggest fucking idiot on the planet. It would be career suicide. Where he is right now is where he will stay. Can you picture him against Barney Ross? Ross would weigh 140 against that 158 pound "junior welter" and it would look like a pro against an amateur.
I like Teo a lot. He's always been my favourite of the four young LWs, but I don't see him going anyway, and having fights like that is only making Loma's loss to him worse.
It's a combination of Loma being too small and Loma not being as good as his hype. It's not exclusive to either one of those reasons, rather its somewhere in the middle. The fact that Teo is now facing bigger guys is gonna be a factor, definitely.
REED Can’t Say He’s Ever Seen a Fucking “Trainer” Standing on the Ropes, Playing to the Crowd Before… Dude is CLEARLY a Detriment to Fimo Jr’s Career, an Attention Whoring ASS CLOWN Whose Boxing Tactics, Opinions and Adjustments Amount to “My Son, My Son, My Son”… It’s NO Coincidence Another Trainer was ALSO In ‘Fimo’s Corner on the BEST Night of His Professional Career…Write ‘Fimo Off at Your Peril; If He Kicks His Ol’ Man to the Curb, He CAN & WILL Fulfill His Potential…. REED
How many people are you allowed in your corner? It would be funny to hire actual cheerleaders in full garb.
3-4 Max to REED’s Knowledge… Head Trainer, Assistant Trainer, Cut Man and the Stool Guy…But the Team Almost Always CUTS to 3, When the Money Gets Bigger… REED
Do any or all of them have to be licensed by the state? If so i would think getting the license for "stool guy" wouldn't require formal testing. After all, the the stool guy didn't even really have a job to do when Foreman had his second career. Not like it would be a wise idea but it sounds like you could have a clown show in your corner if you wanted.
If it is an amateur event everybody in the corner has to be USA Boxing certified; that requires that you attend what I believe is an 8 hour course and pass a background check. As far as professional boxing, there is no licensing process that I am aware of and I have trained fighters and worked corners in 6 states. What I have seen in the BKFC is that they provide a cut man- I don't work those events but I have prepared guys for BKFC fights several times now- because that is really a lost art. Very few people know how to do it any more.
Interesting. Also kind of funny how the amateurs seem to be stricter about such things. I guess it makes sense in a way because it falls under a different umbrella. (Federal?) Whereas at the state level you can't expect them to have that kind of testing in place. It would be hard to imagine Freddie Roach or Nacho Beristain being told they can't work a corner in Boise because they don't have their Idaho boxing license. (not like those guys are likely to be there but still ) How many states even have their own boxing commission? I would assume for those that don't and have the occasional boxing card it would fall under a more general athletic authority.
The state where I live now does not have a state commission and that is why boxing here will always be a joke. On the rare occasion that they have an actual professional card, they bring in an out of state commission to oversee it. The last one that I know of it was the Kansas commission. It is very frustrating because I have a 20' ring and venues willing to let me put on shows and I could bring some pretty good fights here but the lack of a commission makes it undoable. I think that the pros have more relaxed standards because just about everybody is a felon and nobody could pass a background check.
Just watching the Magdaleno ko.... Lopez is just an arsehole who is simply too dumb to add up to being much more than a frontrunner
Typically, Being Licensed in Vegas, New York or Cali Will Be Acknowledged and Honored By Most Other Commissions… But Then There’s Penny Pinching, Corrupt Commissions Like Texas…Every Single Person Working a Corner Has to Be Licensed; and It’s NOT As If There’s a Test to Gauge the Competency of a Cornerman Either… Pay the Licensing Fee and You’re Licensed, Simple As… REED
Even if you ignore his alleged medical condition, he took some punishment and was losing rounds yet nearly KOd thr guy later in the bout. Thats not how front running works
