With Argentina getting some attention from the World Cup I figured this needed an appreciation for boxers of Argentina. Argentina is known for producing some fine and unique fighters. What are some fights involving Argentinian boxers that you think are the most memorable throughout boxing history? Whether it be great fights, great performances, historical moments, etc.

Monzon clinically dissecting Griffith in their first fight, and Locche's masterclass over Fuji are my two favorites.

Santos Laciar's dismantling of Mathebula is also one of my favorites.

So when Khan edged out Maidana was that like England's revenge for what Maradona did to England?

Laciar has dozens of fun performances. Montero is my favourite of them.

I'd also love to see a full fight of a prime Perez; he was such a brilliant little fighter. Like a more spiteful and dynamic Ricardo Lopez.

The most popular Argentine sport is boxing. This sport is so famous because there are numerous Argentine legends, like Pascual Perez, Horacio Accavallo, and Santos Laciar.

LMFFFFAOOOOOO if you think the biggest sport in Argentina is boxing.

I didn't see the whole nation crowding the streets and chanting "Sergio! Sergio!" After Martinez beat Pavlik.

Boxing being most popular in Argentina is laughable of course, but I find it cool that Sergio Martinez was once voted as the athlete of the year, above all footballers. Boxing is surprisingly appreciated even in the countries where it is a small sport

Boxing is a top 3 sport in Argentina.

I'm just not entirely sure what's number 2 - boxing or tennis.

But Argentina certainly has a deep boxing history, unlike Brazil, which only has Jofre.

Shout to Galindez's beat down of Kates in their first fight. Definitely one of the all time best Argentine performances

Galindez's performance against Mike Rossman in the rematch was also a great performance too, which would be his last win.

Argentina tend to produce really messy or boring fighters, or fighters with beautiful styles. There's rarely an in-between. It's like they're all either wonderful boxer punchers or they lumber around like a fucking oaf.

The Rossman rematch was the first Galindez fight I ever watched. I remember buying it on VHS in 2000. I didn't see the first fight that Rossman won until about 2 years later.

The oracle Rossman is protected here, we won't speak of his (flukish) losses

I am almost positive basketball is #2. Also volleyball is popular.

Boxing is definitely top-5 in Argentina, but compared to football everything is minor

This is a really interesting observation.

I don't know if it's a coincidence or not, but in football too Argentina has two quite similar traditions. On one hand there are the marvelously skilled individuals, but the other tradition has been extremely dirty, win-at-all-costs types

I opened a top 5 greatest Argentine athlete thread a few months ago. Wondering where Monzon fit in, sport for sport.

I would say he's top 4, behind only Messi, Maradona, and Di Stefano.
