Yup. Up until the Tyson-Douglas bout, Ali vs Liston 1 was considered the biggest upset in boxing history.

No way is an undefeated Olympic gold medalist (when it meant something to booth) beating a champion making his second title defenses (yes I know he had beaten plenty of contenders before his title shot) is even close to being the second biggest upset in boxing history.

Laing beating Duran has to rank up there. Most of the big ones were mentioned here.

    Turpin-SRR. Willard-Johnson.

    Foreman-Moorer was pretty wild.

Randall-Chavez...but Chavez was already losing a step.

I think Mayorga-Forrest surprised alot of people as did MAB-Prince Nasim...but it doesn't feel right calling those all time upsets.

Yeah thats just part of the ali mystique. Him beating Foreman also wasnt the upset its cranked up to be. I know odds arent Everything, bit it was only 2 or 3 to 1 for both fights

    I think it's a 50/50 thing.

One part hindsight. By that i don't mean knowing the result and odds, but what happened in the rematch and subsequently. The other part is the loser being considered a dominant force at the time. Sonny was looked at as an absolute monster.

I think Ali-Liston and Mosley-Forrest are somewhat similar in that regard. If both losers won their rematches and continued to dominate they would be considered even bigger upsets today .

Sure as Hell not anywhere near the top.

I remember on the forums when it happened. We were surprised, but I don't remember any real shock. There's a difference between surprise and shock. Forrest was never considered invincible in the way a Tyson, Jones, or Curry was.

Dude: if you read any Ali biography book you will know that at that time practically NO ONE was giving Cassius Clay any chance to defeat Liston. it was a HUGE upset!

Imo, the biggest upset involving Forrest was his loss to Sergio Mora. Shocking that he could lose to such a limited fighter (as proven in the rematch).
