Surprising to see him out on his feet like that. It's funny when these fights where an iron chinned guy going in with the hype behind him gets hurt and the other guy looks like the big puncher. One of the best memories I have of this is Mayorga DLH. Very few were DLH a shot at KOing iron chinned Mayorga. Mayorgas chin was getting a lot of hype. He's dropped by a left hook within the first minute or so and has a shocked look on his face on the canvas.

mayorga had his iron chin shattered by trinidad.

eubanks chin may have been compromised by dropping weight late in his career to an unnatural division. thats never a good idea

Pre fight hype was Mayorga was the iron chinned guy coming in. Nobody was picking Oscar by KO.

Shocking result right? Does that mean you give respect to Mayweather Jr for beating that guy in his next fight? Or you think pacquios win was better vs a guy coming off looking lack luster vs 2 lb Forbes then boiling down to a weight he hadn't made in a half dozen plus years?

Yeah you have to give Floyd more credit considering the weights I mean Mayweather was moving up to 154 where DLH had been for years. DLH weighed in at 145 for the Pac fight which was lower than he had weighed in the last 10 years prior. The performance by Pac was just so impressive though. Floyd was shoe shining his way to a decision.

Floyd also pulled some weight bullshit vs Canelo which should be remembered.

I agree, it's clear now that if Eubank had to cut down further for the Benn fight, it would've been brutal. Eddie Hearn is one slimy bastard.

It's amusing when you look back upon the circumstances. Pacquaio was more impressive vs delahoya and Hatton than Mayweather jr was, despite beating them afterward.

And Mayweather Jr made Alvarez lose 2 pounds so that's tainted.

    How about cotto vs both?

For me if Eubank had tired late I'd have out more stock in the weight draining thing. Smith looked like he hadn't eaten in weeks. Eubank looked huge. I've no doubt he boiled down just not sure it had taken a toll by the 4th round.

But I can personally attest to the negatives of being underweight and it's more dangerous than being overweight.

I have a feeling that Liam just bought himself another nice payday, as old man Golovkin will probably pick him as a comeback fight.

Pac was more impressive vs Cotto. Fought him first and although Cotto had been beaten by Margarito a few fights earlier, everyone was pretty sure Margarito had loaded his gloves for that fight since he'd been caught vs Mosley. Good performance by Pac and I remember thinking he was going to lose the fight but I think it was the 2nd round where he hurt Cotto badly where I started to think Pac was legit. Cotto was doing what I thought and bringing the fight to Pac and trying to make his size and strength overwhelm him and took a kind of flash kd. Once he got up and continued pressing I thought Pac was in trouble but he put Cotto down heavily and hurt him badly, proved he was super legit in that moment. Floyd once again shoe shined his way through and lost some rounds. I can't really remember Pac losing any rounds against a younger Cotto.

Pacquaio also made cotto drop to 145lbs and immediately afterward he went to 154

Right. I guess I never thought that was a super big deal since Cotto had weighed 146 vs Clottey the fight before. Moved up in weight after a loss which a lot of fighters do when they lose. It's definitely a factor though. But Pac had his number.

It was this bizarre anomaly and Floyd won the fight clearly, but I remember one round in that fight where Cotto boxed Mayweather's head off. Whenever I've seen Floyd lose rounds it is because someone is crowding him and outworking him, that's the only time I've seen someone legit outbox him.

I remember that. I also thought Zab was giving him quite serious problems early. Floyd had to just resort to use the high guard and pressure like he did vs most southpaws. I guess the shoulder roll shit isn't as effective vs southpaws. I remember seeing Berto come out shoulder rolling vs Victor Ortiz and taking clean left hands to the chin which put him down in the first round lol

Shit yeah, I forgot about the Judah fight. Judah was winning rounds in the first six, was a mixture of the southpaw stance and phenomenal speed.

I wasn't trying to write off his loss by the way, I just think it's kind of crazy to consider that Eubank's chin went from being able to take shots of Liam Williams and George Groves, but not Liam Smith. I think the weight is definitely the reason for that drop off - although I wasn't convinced he'd win anyway.

If he was forced to go even lower, he'd have been absolutely fucked and it's clear now Eddie was banking on that.

Agreed. Eddie had this in the works....boost Benn to the max, browbeat the BBBofC into non-disclosure of the tests, hope Benn took advantage of a weakened Eubank, declare it a "great fight" and do it all again for Megabucks...

    ...and on that note....
