Sibson-Collins Trinidad-Blocker Kim-Ibarra Park-Espadas Saldivar-Robertson Harada-Aoki Avelar-Kim Louis-Baer Foster -Rondon
Mention of Sibsons name had me going back to look at the Frankie Lucas fight. 5 rounds alas. But a comeback destruction nonetheless and one which absolutely contributed to Lucas decline both as a fighter and as a person. Not a "Rocky" style comeback either, just a slow subtle accretion of punishment and psychological erosion caused by the ruggedness of Sibson. The end came "suddenly" when it did especially if as a casual fan you were blindsided by the regularity with which Sibson was being clipped by a variety of southpaw delicacies like the left backhand to the belly, right hooks etc.
Hamed Vs Bungu. Bungu was legitimately expected to give Hamed serious problems. Hamed never dropped a minute of a round and ended it off one shit for a 10 count. Probably Hameds last proper diligent performance. He did it again Vs Sanchez in his very next fight, 4th round stoppage but that was of a guy with a penchant for getting KOd badly and it was a sloppy performance all the way too.
Yeah, Hamed-Bungu is another good one. I rewatch that one every now and again. A top 3 Hamed performance. Here's one I haven't seen mentioned yet: Foster-Rondon. Foster absolutely obliterated Rondon, who was a very solid operator.
My beef with bungu-hamed is that bungu seems only interested in finding a place on the canvas to lay down. It was a disgraceful performance
Hamed did not fight a lot of stellar Mexicans or even Latins per se. Wilf Vasquez had like 7,8 losses and was slipping. Soto was the same. He went on to be stopped by Johnny Tapia off a bodyshot. Lost to Barrera obviously. Even Kelley and Boom Boom were old and had bad losses on their resume. He wanted no part of Smoke Gainer who was chinny but all wrong for Naz.
Did Hamed ever faced a fighter who had a significant height and reach advantage? I dont rebember one occasion, and thats weird since naz was a small fw (height wise)
Medina beating Harrison was a huge shock. Harrison took him apart in the rematch but still....massive upset. Medina one of very few Mexicans to have fought 3 different Brits..
Medina should never be confused for Sal Sanchez, but it's disrespectful to say he sucked. He was a solid guy for many years.
