Rumor has it Alvarez's 3 fight deal with PBC will be: Jermell Charlo in Sept, Gervonta Davis in May and finally a showdown with Stephen Fulton next September.

So Canelo is picking a fighter that’s 2 divisions lower than him. They’re really trying to push this Undisputed vs Undisputed bullshit marketing when actual boxing fans know that this is a cherry-pick.

But hey, at least he’s picking on the Charlo that’s been a bit more active and not the one that’s holding his belt hostage.

Obvs a big money cash out fight for Charlo good luck to him. He's got a big enough frame to stack on some muscle but damn 12lbs.

It's like a director is trying to get a poor actor to ad lib.

"Act relaxed, talk about the pool and so on, ok ... now say something about how dangerous you are but also be confident. Great!. But mention how you work out and stuff. Cut! Ok. Next mention how you're a serious badass. CUT! Go back to casual again."

Canelo signed a 3 fight deal with the PBC.

People bitched about Jermall, citing his inactivity. Jermall pulled out of a Canelo fight FOR THE SECOND TIME.

His brother stepped in, people bitching again saying he's smaller, even though Canelo is 5'8 and Jermall is 6'0.

Where was this outrage when Spence fought Mikey Garcia? It's fine because Mikey had one fight at 140?

It's pretty obvious Canelo is going to fight Jermell, Andrade and Bena. These are fighters that in the past have said Canelo ducked, with the exception of Jermell.

Canelo could fight Fury and haters would still bitch.

Spence coming off back to back (or 1 conclusive) wins over Crawford vs Alvarez is the biggest fight in the sport

Kovalev was done. Solid cherry pick. Alvarez still looked terrible prior to the stoppage

Bivol beat him decisively, I get why they took the fight. His success rate vs gringos was impeccable. Ran into the wrong 1

His team made the right choice to face a smaller guy rather than a sure loss in a rematch with bivol

I've noticed some folks are mocking him for taking on a smaller champ, but here's why that argument doesn't hold up:

1)Charlo started as a middleweight, just like Canelo, so it's not like he's always been a smaller guy.

2)Size isn't everything in boxing. Canelo has fought bigger dudes before and won because of his skills and smarts.

3)Both Canelo and Charlo are undisputed champs, meaning they're both at the top of their game. I've said it before Jermell has bigger balls than Jermall.

So, let's not get hung up on size. This fight is about two top-notch fighters going head-to-head, and it's going to be a helluva matchup. Let's enjoy it and appreciate the talents of both these champs.

    Dubblechin,

No I idea if you remember, but we had a few back and forth's on the old Boxingwise site. I was a wee teenager at the time. Happy to see you are still around man.

Canelo doesn't deserve much credit for the Kov win. We all knew it was a cherry pick going in. Kov was a shot drunk.

If two light welters in Cotto and Khan don't prove to you that Canelo has always been fighting smaller guys; I'll offer you two lightweights in Mosley and Mayweather.

    Light Welters???

Cotto: Had been at 154 5 YEARS prior to his fight with Alvarez and after. He hadn't had a fight at light welter in 10 YEARS.

Khan: Hadn't fought at light welter for 4 YEARS and let's be honest, it wouldn't have mattered what weight that fight occurred at, it would yield the same result.

    Lightweights???

Mayweather : Hadn't been a lightweight in 8 YEARS and had fought at 154 before his fight with Canelo.

Mosley : Hadn't had a fight at lightweight in 13 YEARS. Had 10 fights at 154 before his fight with Canelo, hell he fought at 160 vs Mayorga.

I can use the same logic against you, what the hell is Mayweather, Mosley, and Cotto fighting Super Flyweight Manny Pac? They must always fight smaller guys.

For the past 6 YEARS a strong statement can be made that Canelo has been the smaller fighter. He's 5'8. Who's been the smaller man in this time frame?

I completely agree with this post! It's absurd to claim that a 5'8" boxer who started his career as a welterweight is naturally bigger than someone like Charlo, who stands at 6 feet and began as a middleweight. If you want to technical it's evident that Charlo has the natural advantage in terms of height and reach.

And let's not forget that the opponents Canelo faced at 152 and 154 like Cotto were fighters who had to go through grueling weight cuts to make the limit. It's unfair to compare Canelo's size to these fighters when they were essentially sacrificing their well-being just to meet the weight requirements at the lower weight classes. De la Hoya started at "light weight" and when he fought Hopkins I don't remember people bitching that Hopkins always fights smaller guys.

Canelo could ko Tyson Fury and people would find something negative to say. Canelo has undoubtedly proven his talent and prowess in the sport, regardless of how some may try to diminish his accomplishments by focusing solely on superficial measurements. Meanwhile Tank fights the Rolly's of the boxing world on ppv and idiots happily buy it. But undisputed vs undisputed is a cherry pick? Wtf?

    This fight is weird.

Canelo is obviously on the decline, with his speed/quickness clearly losing a step, and Jermell has never fought above 154.

How many of you would be surprised if an upset occurred here?

It’s his first on his PBC contract.
