This one used to get talked about a lot in the late 90s especially after Lopez beat Campas. Tito’s chin used to get brought up a lot here because Lopez not only had power but he had a beard. Couldn’t hurt him it seemed. But I still think Trinidad’s better technique and quicker hands would have been a difference maker. I think both guys hit the canvas and hurt one another but I see Trinidad ending mid rounds after a brutal barrage.
Yeah, Trinidad would have stopped Lopez. I don't care how good JL's chin was, his defense was horrendous, and you simply can't let Trinidad tag you all night. I'd say Tito stops Lopez on his feet in about 9.
Lopez isn't beating Trinidad. I am a big believer in the ability and potential that Lopez possessed- I have spoken to people that were around him and his ability and natural instincts as a fighter were truly amazing. But his willingness to do the work left a lot to be desired. In Trinidad he would be fighting a guy with just as much ability, the same instincts, and the desire to hone and focus those attributes.
