Unmasking the boxing parasites

I've been thinking of an interesting aspect of the sport lately. The infamous entourage members that seem to linger in the corners of some of our favorite fighters. You know those characters who appear to be more of a hindrance than a help...yet they've managed to establish themselves as permanent fixtures. Let's shine a light on some of the top leeches in boxing......

I'll kick things off with one example

Angel Garcia - Aka "the mouth of Philly"

Ever noticed how Danny Garcia's corner and entourage resemble a family reunion? Angel Garcia, his slutty sisters ECT? Danny's father seems to defy the traditional trainer archetype. With no notable boxing background...his role remains a mystery. Is he a strategic mastermind or just along for the ride?


Now, the second part is the aftermath. What happens to these leeches when the spotlight fades and the boxing career winds down? Do they transition to regular jobs or do they continue to ride the coattails of past glory like Teddy Atlas?

What are your thoughts on these boxing leeches? Any other examples you'd like to add to the discussion?

 

Angel Garcia got A LOT out of Danny considering Danny wasn't blessed with much natural ability. He actual deserves credit.

 

It is very difficult to know from outside who does what and what does the fighter in particular need.

For example Bundini Brown seemed like a total hangaround in Ali's camp but who knows, maybe Ali needed just that type of a guy to keep his spirits up.

That said, it is difficult to see what Horn and Holloway brought to the table for Tyson during his comeback.

One type are also the likes of Jack Mosley. I don't believe he was a leech, but he only had a job because his son was a super-talent. Difficult to see how his "you gotta throw 'em punches" instructions had been vital

 

my favorite was the guy in bowe's entourage who beat the shit out of golota and fan man with his brick cellular device.

 

There's those two twin brothers that accompany every PBC ring-walk and appear to be related to the main PBC goon. What the fuck do these guys do? Why do they need 5o be in the ring?

 

Yeah I was wondering what they do. That's the Watson twins. Sam Watson's kids.

It was pretty funny how Angel Garcia was afraid of Roberto Guerrero's old man. Part of Garcia's act, was to run his mouth, cuss a lot and act crazy and unhinged. When Guerrero's old man chased him all through the casino, it was the difference between someone acting crazy and someone who's not acting.

 

Oh man, please don't give any kind of credit, backhand or otherwise, to this clown. Throughout the Mayweather fight promotion, seemed like his only interest was showing to the world how tough he was. Man you're in your late 50's, small and overweight, no one's scared of you (apart from Angel Garcia it seems )

David Haye. He parasited the sport, offering very very little, even gatecrashing other people's conferences to try and generate revenue for himself. Everything with Hate was nap-tuck.

At least there is some (unintentional) comedy to it. He has a son who was a world champion at one point yet 95% of his interviews are about himself fighting. As you pointed out, he doesn't look like much of a fighter which makes it even funnier.

Where as Angel Garcia attacked Khan's Muslim faith and addressed Keith Thurman as "Nigga." Nothing remotely funny about him. Just an old loudmouth twat trying to be controversial and offensive while hiding behind his son.

The funny thing is the two sons are not big shit talkers. Danny even looks uncomfortable doing stare downs. And they're stuck with their two clown dads.

 

Its part of the Ali folklore, and it shouldn’t be perceived as critique on The Greatest, they gave him his new name after all. But I cannot shake the feeling that ‘The Nation of Islam’ didn’t have the best and purest motives when it came to Ali’s career and wellbeing. I think they were leeching to him as some sort of parasite.

 

Ali didn't feel that way. Brown needed the spoon by the time Ali was through with him.

I have fond memories of Rafa Marquez knocking Tim Austin out. Because right before the round ended Snowell predicted his fighter getting knocked out. He said it won't be long now.
