If you posted a Duran vs Tank poll on social media, I guarantee you the polling would be close to 50-50.

There's no boxing opinions that can be taken seriously beyond select message boards like this one. Really, not beyond here since BoxingFanatics has long been a ghostown and ESB has devolved into more of a casual fan site.

Age has a lot to do with it. A 14 year old watching Tank on YouTube has probably only heard the name Duran in passing. When I used to get all of my boxing info from YouTube, I'd have swore blind that Golovkin would KO Canelo, Hagler and Robinson on the same night, just based on his power. Of course they're going to pick Tank. Maybe they'll realise they're an idiot, maybe they won't. But most of the people on YouTube are kids, and kids mostly DKSAB.

 

Your generation in general is extremely prone to sports recency bias. They tend to think that every athlete pre-2000s was a caveman. You're fortunately an exception. A very rare exception.

When I first started getting into Boxing in middle school, I knew a guy that was semi interested in combat sports, and had recently started taking an interest in Boxing and its fighters. One day he shows up and starts talking to me about Sonny Liston, and how brutal his 2 KO's of Patterson were. I say something along the lines of ''Yeah, crazy how ordinary a 22 year old Ali made him look'', and I shit you not, he said ''Wait, he fought Muhammad Ali ?'' I didn't know how to respond and just left it at that.

 

No, Liston never fought Ali.

The aforementioned kid also didn't know who George Foreman was. Another bizarre case I recall is one time when Mayweather was brought into discussion, we were comparing him to Mike Tyson in all time sense. I was still wet behind the ears at the time (way less than this guy, though) and still had Tyson as one of the greatest Boxers ever P4P, so I also thought it was an appropriate comparison.

Anyway, one of us started comparing records (Could have been me, but I don't remember), and how Mayweather's 50-0 gives him an advantage. The guy then proceeded to say ''Wait, Floyd Mayweather is currently 50-0 ?' Last time I checked he had around 40 fights''. That was in 2019, and we were born in 2005. So unless he was watching Mayweather in kindergarten, in a country that all but ignores Boxing, then he was clearly lying his ass off for some reason.

 

2005? Damn, you're a young'n. Anyway, welcome to the forum. Nice to have young blood around here. Don't mind the lot of us old men. We still fight on here like we're teenagers. Lol.

 

Oh, I will more than mind the old timers, they're the best guys to learn from. Most of the time, anyway. There's always that one guy that has been following the sport for decades and has takes like ''Castillo had a better LW resume than Duran'', I've interacted with a good chunk of them.

 

Back to PAW, by time this clown gets back in the ring, it's gonna be WELL over a year since the Ryan fight. Stank has a style thats heavily dependent on speed, timing, and explosiveness. His long layoffs were okay when he was in his early 20s, but the inactivity is gonna bite him in the ass soon.
