No doubt, the best fight I saw live. Trinidad-Vargas is a close second for me. It wasn't as dramatic but the hype before the fight and the ambiance at the bar I was was just electric. Corrales Castillo 1 was objectively better but the lead up wasn't on the same level at all and it wasn't as big. Trinidad Vargas was a major fight, that drew major attention and it delivered big time.
Hot take, but I dont see Trinidad-Vargas as anything epic. It was an excellent fight, don't get me wrong, but I've never viewed it as an all time great war. It was too one sided to be a classic. I mean, Vargas had success in the mid-rounds, but short of that, it was just an ass whuppin dished out by Tito.
I’m not saying otherwise, it’s everything else I mentionned that makes it a special fight for me. The hype was phenomenal, it was in the midst of one of boxing golden ages and it delivered. My favourite fights are the ones I really lived, if you know what I mean. The fights I anticipated and discussed with people I knew and then watched with them while drinking and screaming. I feel this is the best experience boxing has to offer. I rewatch old fights as well but I don’t find them as compelling as a live fights I’ve been waiting for a while.
It's wild that next year will mark the 20 year anniversary of Corrales-Castillo. Seems like yesterday.
Chacon Limon 4 was a great war no doubt. If we're talking that era gomez pintor was equally as savage and fought at a higher skill level
The first Corrales-Castillo and Morales-Barrera fights come to mind as far as action and drama. Hamed-Kelley deserves a mention. Trinidad-Vargas was great but I do agree that most of the rounds was an ass whooping dished out by Trinidad.
