Carl Froch has weighed in, and if true, it's going to be a joke of a fight. “From what I’m hearing with the contracts, allegedly, he gets paid less if he wins in round one, Tyson, or if he gets a knockout he gets paid even less. There’s restrictions in his contract based on how he wins. I don’t know if it’s been confirmed, but I’ve read somewhere that there’s a clause in his contract that means he’s going to earn less money if he goes out there and destroys Jake Paul.”
On a technical boxing note, I notice that Tyson's trainer goes over his head intentionally when they are doing pads. Shouldn't Tyson be working on his bobbing, weaving, and slipping? The trainer should be aiming for where Tyson's head is, not above it unless that's the point of the drill.
That is absolutely mental. I knew something was up from the start. I trust the word of Carl Froch as much as the meth head on the Subway, but if this is true it really wouldn't surprise me. Which is crazy, coz I actually thought Jake could win legitimately. I know it sounds crazy, but Tyson couldn't beat Kevin McBride 20 years ago.
Mike is 60-years-old in failing health. I'm not sure he could destroy Jake even if he did try. Maybe he could just due to the astronomical gap in natural ability between the two, but he's so old that it might be a struggle. If Tyson was like 10-15 years younger, yeah, I'd say he could easily annihilate Jake if he wanted to.
Sad to say but this is so true. Me and my brother helped coach high school track, and my brother played high school basketball and walked onto a few college teams before ultimately giving it up. When we were 19/22 we would play with my father who was 5-6 inches taller and around 50 and he could hang with us/beat us. Same applied to tennis, bowling, softball/baseball etc.. basically any random sport that we dabbled in. But the time I was 25 I was already slipping vs my 19 year old self but my dad was getting closer to 60 and I could beat him at relatively low effort it was pretty lame to see. Also had a friend who was a postal worker who benched 405 on his 50th birthday and could deadlift 6 plates a side for like 10 reps(545 lbs). He had meticulously kept track for 20+ years. He recently celebrated 65 and we were talking about this upcoming fight. He mentioned that starting around 56, 57 he dropped off about 10% a year until around 62. Now he is barely stronger than me (I'm about 6 foot 170 lbs). Someone I know used to hang out at the "heavyweight factory" with Stacey McKinley, and when Riddick Bowe was teasing a comeback he told me that I (an ex amateur boxer who quit close to 20 years ago who is much smaller) would actually beat Bowe easily and likely Holyfield as well (I wouldn't !) and that they were so slow and bad it was hard to believe considering how in shape Holyfield looked. This was before he fought Belfort and was beaten in one round. Would anyone have picked Tyson to win Tyson-Holy 3 before Holyfield had that fight?? Totally hope I'm somehow wrong and Tyson is on the good good shit, but this result seems obvious. Hopefully Paul comes in so heavy trying to do damage that the big gloves/added weight makes it just a total shitshow.
Great post. People seems to underestimate how much old age has a deleterious effect on athletic abilities.
Real talk. I've been saying some version of this to everybody i discuss the thing with but the Mystique of Mike still holds sway - its gonna be sad for all of us to see it turn into sea foam before our eyes.
Of course, Mike is an old man and it's highly unlikely to win, even if he tries. The big gloves mean that he probably can't even land the big lucky early shot he needs to do it. The interest for me is in seeing what happens when it starts to go wrong for Mike. He won't like it, at all. Old man or not, he won't enjoy being beaten by a scrub in front of a massive crowd. If Paul takes liberties there is a very real chance that Mike snaps. I know he's stoned himself into a more relaxed state in his old age but let's not forget that Mike is a fucking lunatic. Does anyone really think he'll be worrying about contracts etc if he flips his shit? His most likely route to victory is if he goes absolutely batshit mental in there and starts going into street fighting mode. That's the only reason why I'll be tuning in, frankly. MTF
"Ulcer flare up" c'mon ulcers are fixed with a few pills, he probably has dementia and forgot the fight was on.
Nor should it. It's a fucking scam. I really think the Pauls are emblematic of the general rot that has set in across the west but especially in the USA Contrived, fake, cynical, underhand grasping cunts who produce nothing and create nothing but ride the crest of other people's waves while telling you they have just reinvented the wheel. This isn't new ........
Because you can just see it... For me it's the bit where they put themselves in legendary company....."Muhammad Ali, Gandhi.....ME"
