Did GGG announce his retirement recently or is it just him being so inactive? Out of the 2 I’d say GGG just for the fact that he had 21 title defenses and was more dominant. He was also tougher than Tszyu.
He didn't officially announce it but he's over 40, hasn't fought since the third Nelo fight, and is now the president of the Kazakhstan National Olympic Committee. He's retired.
Yeah, I'd say so. I think the deciding factors are that Golovkin had a lot more chin, stamina, and heart than Tszyu. Golovkin was also more solid defensively.
I guess it is pretty lopsided if you consider the extremely clear win the corrupt judges should have given Golov in the first Nelo fight. Maybe the only advantage I can give Tszyu over Golov is Tszyu had better handspeed. Golov, now that I think about it, was better at everything else. And Golov's prime was certainly more dominant.
Shame we never got to see prime golov face anyone really top drawer. What was he 34, 35 by the first alvarez fight?
Golovkin-Pirog might have been interesting if the latter hadn't done his back in. I might be wrong here but I think that was actually signed at the time?
It was! I remember. Matter of fact, I'm pretty sure it was supposed to happen on some August date in 2012. Then Pirog pulled out like 2 weeks before with back problems and Golovkin fought some southpaw whose name escapes me atm.
Golovkin is certainly greater and the clear pick for being better although head-to-head and the same size I think Tszyu would have a chance.
