As a lifelong Duran fanatic…I don’t know of anyone else at 135-140 dealing with Pea.
    Thoughts?

Maybe Pryor….he will will try to overwhelm pea with activity, miss a ton, land a lot of punches on the shoulders, arms…..Pea will land the cleaner/better punches. But I can see judges giving it to Pryor…

Carlos Ortiz would have had a good shot at lightweight. A better chance than Chavez.

I’d pick Whitaker from 88’ to around 95’ to win a 7-5, 8-4 type decision over Floyd

I'm glad Double has joined the thread. Now we can hear a balanced, unbiased opinion on Whitaker.

A good chance? Yes, but I would still pick Whittaker to beat Mayweather in a competitive fight on points.

A lot of Mayweather's best weapons wouldn't work as well against Whittaker.

As examples I do not think Mayweather could force Whittaker into his shell with his counters. Neither do I think that Mayweather could control Whittaker on the inside given how good the latter was on the inside.

Chavez was much better at 135. He was past his prime at 147 and should have never really been fighting there. He came back down to 140 & had a good run despite losing to Randall. But that was definitely the backside of his career by then.

Chavez never accomplished shit at 147. It was a bridge too far for him. So the idea that the weight makes no difference is asinine.

Even at his peak Chavez is too predictable for Pea, but I admit it'd be competitive at 135. Pea still edges it for me.

That still doesn't prove shit. If both of their best weights were 135.

The Chavez that took apart Rosario at 135 is much different than the Chavez who lost to Randall a few months after the Whitaker fight. If you can't see that I don't know what to tell you.

Also, Chavez was NEVER a welterweight. Never did jack shit at 147 for a reason..

And sorry, I shouldn't have put the "same old fightbeat" on you but this place is ridiculously anti Chavez and always has been.

He fought to a disputed draw 90 fights into his career against the P4P #1 at a weight that he never accomplished anything at. THEREFORE he wouldn't have stood a chance with the elites at 135 or 140. It's ridiculous.

    A "Disputed" Draw???:Dont:

The Only Thing "Disputed" About Whittaker-Chavez was the SCORECARDS, Bro...Pernell Won that Fight Rather CONVINCINGLY, Particularly Down the Stretch...It was a Borderline SCHOOLING of an Undefeated Chavez, the # 2 Fighter in the World, Lb for Lb, @ Worst, @ the Time...

REED Thinks You'd Have to Be OVERTLY Pro-Chavez to IGNORE the Whittaker Fight and the FACT it Wasn't @ an Optimal Weight for Pernell Either...Not Even Remotely...

The Topic is "Who BEATS Pernell @ His Peak?"...

Since We've SEEN Them in the Ring Together, WATCHED It Unfold, There's Not Much of a Case for Chavez BEATING Pernell @ Pernell's BEST Weight, in REED's Opinion...

    Styles > Weight...

I still wanna know how this place is anti-Chavez. I've never gotten that vibe. I feel Chavez is respected and correctly rated around here.

I'm actually a Chavez fan. Not nearly to the same extent that I'm a fan of Duran, Benitez, and Gomez, but I certainly like Chavez as a fighter and I VERY OFTEN rewatch his prime performances. He's my second favorite Mexican great behind Sanchez.

Truth be told, I rewatch prime Chavez more than prime Pea, but I feel Pea was better.

I know he lost. I think I had it 7-4-1 Whitaker.

You still don't get it though. That may have been Whitaker's prime spot in his career though he was above his best weight. It definitely wasn't Chavez's. He lost to Frankie Randall a few months after the Whitaker fight and that was back down at 140. Like I said, he did win his belt back and had some decent wins over guys like Kamau and Ali but that was the back side of his career.
