Where do you rate Roman Gonzalez at super fly/junior bantam all-time

I could see Gonzalez beating Roman, Watanabe and Tapia on initial thought, though not having really sat down and seriously pondered those fights. He has the right style and attributes at the very least. Moon and Galaxy are more problematic, though with enough of their own faults that the fights still require thought imo.

 

I can certainly see him beating those guys, but I tend to think they'd take him. For me, Johnny's style was pretty similar to a mixture of Estrada and Cuadras; with him using that educated left like Estrada, and having the same speedy style and angry temperament. Obviously Gonzalez has hardly had his way with either of those two - I actually don't think he won either fight. Actually now I think about, I'm pretty reluctant to favour him over Roman either. I suppose the counter to that would be that Gonzalez did manage to enforce his fight on those two, but their skills, style and qualities made it extremely hard for him, but tbh I still think even if Gonzalez dragged Tapia into the type of fight he'd like, Tapia would still likely be able to get the best of it. Roman would probably be extremely adverse to engaging with Tapia and I'd take him to box him pretty decisively.

I'd also favour Donaire and probably both Konadu and Inoue over Gonzalez at 115. As much as I love Penalosa, I probably wouldn't favour him over Gonzalez.

Choco looked on form and put on a really good performance, albeit against a no name. Still a good showing for his introduction to bantamweight. I honestly think he can grab a title from that weight class and beat anyone not named Junto Nakatani.

 

He needs to stay far away from nakatani he'd get splattered. I havent seen the other two Japanese Champs but inoues brother appears beatable

Honestly I'd rather see him drop back to 115 and fight martinez. That would be a fuckin war

 

Nakatani may be a bridge too far. Chocolatito vs Martinez would be amazing to watch. Perhaps we may see that at some point.

Would like to see him against Bam Rodriguez as well but they seem to be good friends.

 

If he finally got a seven figure payday I can't knock him (or rodriguez) for taking it but it would get ugly too, unless rodriguez carries him

Gonzalez looked soft and pudgy at 116 lbs or whatever he was tonight, at 118 nakatani is a huge tall bantam who could easily go to 122 and do damage
