Over the last 20 years, it's like someone looked at the tradition of Olympic boxing and asked themselves "How can we fuck this up to a point where it no longer matters at all?"

I might have this a little off, but not as much as you. I think the 92 olympics had some crazy expensive red, white, and blue ppv packages. That was a pure shit olympics for boxing with maybe only the gold medal matches being available without the packages. That was DLH, right?

As I recall, 1996 was pure shit for the Americans with no gold medalists.

It was really better in the 00s when you had to chase it around between the different NBC brands, but they showed a lot.

Barcelona in '92. I clearly remember watching Raul Marquez, Eric Griffin, Pepe Reilly, Julian Wheeler, Tim Austin and others fight as well as DLH's earlier fights. I didn't have any PPV packages.

In '96 I remember watching Fernando Vargas, Antonio Tarver, David Reid and others. I lived on a military base. I didn't have PPV.

Some great finals this evening, the Ukranian vs Kazakh MW bout was v entertaining and Alvarez vs Oumiha was great...Alvarez was a little fortunate to take the first round, Oumiha's work was a lot cleaner even though he struggled to keep Alvarez at a distance, but Oumiha faded in the third round..Alvarez has a very pro-friendly style....the super HW semi-finals were also great, is it true that boxing will not feature in the LA games in 2028?

Id be interested to see Alvarez get with a good trainer over here. its odd to see him come out of the cuban camp fighting like that. he is even wilder than gamboa was. if someone can harness his talent he will be a monster in the pros. he has the speed, reflexes and coordination to become an elite pro.

Honestly, I watched the World championship final from last year and thought Alvarez clearly beat Oumiha there. Him winning a decision in France today is very telling.

I cant see that spanish super heavyweight fucking with Jal olov, that should be a very one sided final.

and yea, the talk is boxing will be gone in 2028. theyve already been phasing it out slowly, less weight classes. Less competitors from USA and Cuba, two of the top nations historically.
