Prime Tyson would never have been taken to the tenth round by a scrub midget such as Carlos Takam or Jose Ribalta
Tyson had too much hand speed for AJ. I'm a big AJ fan. But his defense is MADE for Tyson's quick combinations to find the mark. Depending on how much AJ can take will be the determine factor in how long he lasts. But Mike gets him outta there sooner or later.
Bad chin, defense and head movement is a terrible combination against tyson. I dont think aj has much of a chance
Plenty of guys went in there with the intention to fight until Tyson hit them. I think Joshua makes a go of it but he's a bit too basic to deal with a pre-prison Tyson. Tyson's hand speed and ability to close the distance would give Joshua fits.
Size and power will help AJ of course...but his style is the most important factor here. He doesn't fight tall.
Yep. I actually think Joshua is the type of fighter Tyson feasts on. Big and basic, and hittable. Tyson would absolutely abuse Joshua.
Joshua doesnt seem to have any kind of uppercut - I was looking for him to use it against Takam but no, all he did was bend at the knees and fight down to Takam´s height. Fuckin shit, that is.
I obviously pick Mike in this, before anybody starts, he was better and stylewise I think is all wrong for AJ. Saying that, I think people are going waaaay overboard with Saturday's fight. Takam was awkward, tough, and put up a good fight but some people are acting like Joshua is now absolutely terrible in comparison to every single former heavyweight champion because he didn't blow the guy out of the water. It gets a bit tedious how contemporary fighters seem to be under this ridiculous scrutiny which the legends never got.
Its not only the takam fight. Guy also looked very vulnerable and basic against an old wladerina, and only won because he managed to exploit his lack of chin and heart (to a lesser extent). Its obvious that aj has some pretty big upsides, but the varnish might be starting to crack a bit.
Tyson would run right through Joshua. It's a terrible style match-up for a guy who goes backwards in straight lines, has no real footspeed and is very hurtable when he gets hit. Just a terrible style match-up. MTF
Lol. Look at good ole Ugo trying to be a contrarian to boost the more modern guy. Pathetic. Anyway, this question was always a joke. I'd take even the 2000 Tyson over the very best version of AJ. Make no mistake, even in 2000 Mike was a better fighter than that worthless piece of shit cholo Ruiz.
Joshua would not at all be able to deal with peak Tyson coming at him and countering his lead hand. He also doesn't have a good enough clinch to neutralise Tyson's inside work for long. Genuinely cannot see any version of Joshua lasting 4 rounds.
Agreed. Ugo's schtick was that size was a "talent" and that today's juggernaut heavies were just toooo big and developed for the smaller guys of the 70's, 80's etc to handle. And here comes Uszyk, a blown-up cruiseweight and an average sized heavy at best who beats the top three modern giants Joshua, Dubois and Fury, while in his mid to late thirties. Wonder what his rationale would be to explain that?
There is no way in Hell I'm taking AJ over the Tyson who smoked Savarese and stopped Golota. Mike still had a great deal of quickness and velocity on his shots at that point. He was a shell of his 86-91 self, but he was still much faster than your average heavyweight. Stupid ass AJ isn't avoiding the power shots of that Tyson. Following the Golota fight, Mike never trained hard again and he let his weight get away from him. AJ would beat any version of the post-Golota Tyson.
As i said before, i was a bit on UGBK side before. But Usyk success, combined with a cage fighter nearly beating Fury, made me realised that i was dead wrong. These big bums would get carved up by any decent HW starting from the 60s to 2010
