Songs about Britain or specific places in Britain. Preferably with the names of those places in the title or lyrics of the song.

    "Waterloo Sunset" -The Kinks (1967)

Originally titled "Liverpool Sunset." The story came to Kinks frontman, Ray Davies in a dream.

When the Beatles released "Penny Lane"/"Strawberry Fields Forever" earlier in 1967, Davies decided to move the story back to London. It was then when he realized what an important role Waterloo had played in his childhood.

The song hit #2 on the UK charts.

    Notes:

Waterloo Station mentioned in the song is the busiest London Underground Station year after year.

When English singer/songwriter Cathy Dennis covered the song in 1996, Ray Davies not only gave his blessing but played the cab driver in the music video.

Notes: "Solsbury Hill" was Peter Gabriel's first single after leaving Genesis. It peaked at #13 on the UK charts.

Erasure covered the song in 2003 as the lead single to their covers album, Other People's Songs.

Their version hit #10 on the UK charts.

"Going Down To Liverpool " -The Bangles (1984)

With drummer, Debbi Peterson on lead vocals. This was a cover of a Katrina and the Waves (known as The Waves at the time) track.

The video was directed by Susana Hoff's mother who got her friend, Leonard Nimoy to play the chauffer in the video.
