I’d take Bowe to beat Fury. I don’t think he’d have success pushing him back like he did Wilder.

Let's be honest about Fury - he reigns over perhaps the poorest heavyweight division ever. The ONE man with talent and ability, he shamelessly ducks.

Wilder is garbage outside of his right hand.

    AJ is garbage in general.

    Whyte is a horrible fighter.

Wald was a shell of his prime self.

You can't measure how Fury would do against the elite heavys based on how he's handled these stiffs.

I have my doubts about Fury beating Usyk, honestly.

Fury’s size alone is the main reason of his success, without the size advantage he would not have half as much success as he does now. It’s why he’s able to take Wilder’s shots. And most of his competition consists of stiffs that makes Fury look more elusive. It won’t work on a guy like Usyk who has faster hands and feet.

Put a prime Ali or Larry Holmes in the ring with Fury and they would both make him look like a mummy.

I must again take the opposite view. Holmes would have his hands full with Fury, and so would Ali.

Holmes had trouble with guys like Berbick, Weaver, The Truth, Bonecrusher Smith etc. Fury was clearly faster than any of them, snd considerably larger. How on earth is he made to look like a mummy?

I get it that nobody is at their sharpest every time, but Holmes struggled with half dozen guys.

Furthermore, it is totally true that Fury's record is thin. But which good or great opponents did Holmes beat? Most would agree that his two best wins are Norton and Witherspoon. With little less luck with the judges, he could have lost them both.

No, this era isn't good, and no, Fury isn't proven. But saying that he could hang with some of the greats is far from the dumbest things that have been said

Fury wouldn't be an easy fight for Holmes, no. Holmes would win in the end though.

Prime Ali is a different beast than Holmes.

Agreed, I like Fury but I think he s a notch below the true greats of the division. However, there is no one in history that combined skills and agility with this much size (and by quite a margin) so we cannot simply assume the Ali, Tyson and Holmes would easily outclass him. It's still a big question mark how good he is imo.

Edit: Though Fury is much slower (handspeed) than all the guy you listed save maybe Bonecrusher and Weaver. He fares a bit better if we talk about movement.

Ahhhh yes, because even under his ruthless body attack... the granite jawed Zab Judah went 12 with Floyd, without ever being in serious danger of getting stopped.

Surely, the fragile Hearns would only last 7 faced with such an onslaught.

I’ll give SAS this much: when it came to boxing, he openly deferred to Max as he should have.

Stephen A probably never got over TO telling him that Max is blacker than him.

I remember some people saying “Khan is such a complete fighter except for his chin” after the Maidana fight.

Of all fights to make you think something so bizarre, THIS is the one that does it?

Khan showed many of his technical and mental (Ring IQ) weaknesses against Maidana, but that was a fight where his leaky chin did NOT fail him.

On the NFL subreddit, when the topic of CTE comes up, I’ve seen a few people say “back in the days, they didn’t know about football players and boxers suffering brain damage”.

Even on the boxing subreddit, I’ve seen people say that we didn’t know about boxers suffering brain damage in the 90s.

The 90s, you know, when the most famous real boxer ever and most famous fictional boxer ever were both suffering from brain damage (which was supposed to be permanent but somehow went away by the next film).

I think the only big difference is it didn't have a name which i suppose to some people translates to "it wasn't known".

Scientifically you need data and studies, but i don't think very many people thought getting punched in the face repeatedly had zero effect on the brain.

The number of people last week insisting Mike was gonna blow Paul away.... then furious that the whole thing was rigged when that didnt happen ranks up there, tbh. Mike being nearly 60 just wasn't any kind of factor

What's even more puzzling is that some respected boxing figures...even former pro boxers and trainers actually thought Mike had a shot in the first three rounds.

Casuals don't understand that the man was 100% shot by his late 30s.

For some reason casuals don't understand that unfortunately 60 year olds can't beat up young people unless said young person is a total pussy.

Especially 60 years old with the wear and tear Mike Tyson has.

I'm close to 40, and fluctuate between 170 and 190 depending on if I'm training with weights or laying off.

I used to be a wrestler and amateur boxer and was 130 pounds at same height. Sadly 20 year old me would beat me now even though I'm twice as strong and not that old. It's just the way it is.

Listening to people seriously give Tyson a chance after Holyfield and Bowes comebacks was painful.
