HBO/Warner Bros just gave AEW a third rate Rasslin'/WWE company 185 million per year for the rights to stream their 2 weekly shows on HBO MAX...

You telling me they can string together $150-250 million a year for a one or two boxing card a month...I get now that with the terrori....Arab/Sheik/Akbar it will be more difficult to get fights made for a reasonable price....but still...

So very saddened to hear the passing of legendary boxing scribe Michael Katz. For years, he was my source of all things boxing when at the New York Times and NY Daily News. Was a terrific mentor at the start of my own writing career. Will be forever missed.

Q: What's the difference between a hobo and a homo?

A: A hobo has no friends. A homo has friends up the ass.

Mike Katz, Wally Matthews, Steve Kim, Thomas Hauser, Jerry Izenberg, Wrong Borges ( called ONE FUCKING FIGHT HIS WHOLE CAREER) Kellerman... that whole scene, if you wanted to sum up American cultural hubris of the 1990s and early 2000s as a pugilistic synecdoche then the above are it.

In their defense, they will never be this bad.

If it was filmed in Canada, it was beamed directly onto Irish TV screens in the 80s/90s...beachcombers, littlest hobo, kids of degrassi street, anything funded by the national film board of Canada...

Interesting. Never really liked any of them (especially Degrassi) other than Littlest Hobo, but that's when i was a little kid.

Ireland bought all the shit that was way past it's expiry date. Highway to Heaven, Littlest Hobo, Kids of Degrassi Street, 8th Street Cambodians.....no wait that's something else.

Beachcombers. That shit was fucking epic. Finally people in Ireland got to see other humans with worse teeth worse clothes and worse prospects than they themselves had. And it seemed just as WET over there as over here.

I'll say this for KoDGSt, it had a very very short poignant theme. Not some blaring mindless cacophony.

This was pre-Zoom. If you didn't leave the house, you didn't work. Period.

I'll be honest:- fuck HBO and Ring. There's better opinion and effort offered up at this website than by those guys.

I mean look at Joyce Carol Oates. Who told her she could write about boxing? Woman gets taken in by obvious frauds and spoofs.

    Who are these people?

The only Canadian shows I remember getting as a kid were Bizarre & SCTV. I watched Bizarre reruns every night. Could never catch SCTV. Later, Kids In The Hall (could never catch it.)

Now there's Murder In A Small Town. I watched the first episode. It was unfolding slowly so I ditched it. I did read good reviews on it.

I remember when the only real source fur boxing news in Ireland was on the magazine shelves. Nobody ever bought those fucking magazines. They all went bust. Ring magazine, Boxing monthly, Bert Sugars Fight Game (horrid magazine) KO magazine etc. All made money at one point.

Plus it's not like they were dumping cold hard facts to the bitter end either. Ring was particularly bad even 20 years ago.

Nobody really wants articles now. They want 3 minutes of highlights they can watch while filming a beef at a bus stop.

Littlest Hobo probably inculcated millions of kids over here with some sort of severe procrastination syndrome.
