He is currently hospitalized and undergoing brain surgery. This was after losing to Pedro Taduran in a brutal rematch whom he lost his title to previously. Very sad and hope he pulls through so he can return to a normal life with his family. Yet another reminder of why boxing is a dangerous sport. Boxing: Ex-champ Ginjiro Shigeoka has brain surgery, set to retire
I threw some money on Taduran to win by KO in that second fight since his style is just something you either can handle or you can't. So I was surprised it went the distance. Shig took a lot of punishment but held up to last the distance but it was clear after the bell that something wasn't right and it was reminding me of McClellan quite quickly. I made money since I also bet on Taduran ML and he was somehow an underdog after their first fight when he had broken Shig down and KO'd him in that one so I didn't understand those odds at all but he eventually got bet down to being favourite close to the fight.
