I had Roy down as one of those numbskull guys who will always rationalise anything in a way that makes him feel like he is on top since the time he was bragging that he went the distance in the Tarver 3 post fight interview. Dillian Whyte is the same. Very few fighters would be bragging like that to Larry Merchant in the ring after Tarver 3.

I'd probably fancy a Buchanan stoppage in a 15 rounder tbh. Hatton always faded late in big fights, while Buchanan's gas tank was unlimited. Buchanan wasn't a feather-fist, his shots had some venom to them. Hatton would take his shots early, but after 11-12 rounds of being jabbed and countered to death, Hatton would be ready to go.

 

I don't see it simply because Hatton walked through the fire Tszyu hit him with. Hatton was a natural 140lbr (not hugely significant) and we have to take Hatton as being that guy who had no energy shortages Vs Tszyu not the ragged versions Vs Urango or Maussa.

For Buchanan I simply go off the Duran fight. No way Hatton can muster a repeat of that and if Duran was so frustrated to knee Buchanan in the balls then Hatton would be likewise frustrated, just worse and sooner.

It's very possible that Ricky gets ragged, cut, and stopped but it's more a retirement thing or intervention than an outright stoppage.

Buchanan probably beat better domestic opposition when he beat Jim Watt. Hatton s best domestic win is Magoo, a very competent boxer.

Laguna is a better win than any Hatton win. Laguna had more left in the tank than Tszyu. Plus Laguna was just a greater fighter than Tszyu in general.
