Arturo's son dead at 17. Sad. No cause of death given. And because of that, I'm wondering if he self-exited like his father did. Either way, RIP. Far too young to go.
I was more into the conspiracy theory when it first happened in 2009 and I was younger. I dont buy it nowadays. The conspiracy, I mean. Gatti killed himself. Gatti was a raging drunk with manic depression and I'm SURE he had CTE, and he had threatened suicide before. Occam's razor points to suicide. Alexis Arguello's "suicide" -- now THAT I dont believe and virtually nobody does. Arguello was murdered. I also think that Liston was murdered. But I think Gatti self-deleted on drunk, CTE impulse.
I had to refresh my memory on the Arguello case. Arguello supposedly offed himself with TWO (not one, but fucking two) shots to the heart. You gotta be fucking kidding me. One shot to the heart and you're as dead as a door nail instantly. You dont have time to get off a second shot. Gotta be THE MOST OBVIOUS murder covered up as a suicide of all time.
Hatton and Gatti are scheduled for a fight in the afterlife next month billed as "It all Hangs in the Balance." Alright I'm leaving for Hell, goodbye.
I knew there was controversy regarding Arguello’s death, but I hadn’t heard about the 2 gunshots in Arguello’s heart. Arguello had been very open about his past issues with major depression and being suicidal, so I wasn’t surprised when the news broke that he killed himself. But then people started talking about suspicious circumstances. I don’t know about Gatti either, but I lean towards him killing himself. His brother Joe has talked about how Arturo had been depressed and suicidal. One of his close friends also talked about it. Then there’s the issues with alcohol (another factor which plays in a high percentage of suicides) and probable CTE. It always annoyed me when people would use his heart in the ring as evidence to say he wouldn’t quit on life. That “logic” is so backwards. Refusing to quit in a brutal boxing match brings you CLOSER to dying rather than farther. Going through hell in the ring also suggests that his boxing career meant an awful lot to Gatti. A career that was over.
I'm not leaning towards anything either. First i've heard of this happening is actually this thread. There are obviously multiple causes of death. Let's just say this is a "confirmed" suicide. That doesn't mean a whole if it's suspicious to some, but neither is people who say "That person would NEVER" (commit suicide, cheat on a spouse, shoplift, return a library book late) People do all sorts of things people that are closest to aren't aware of, yet online everybody "knows what really happened".
It was announced years ago that Gatti family hired a private detective to prove that he was killed and didnt off himself. They never went public with the result of the investigation.... seems pretty obvious thst the conclusion was that it was a suicide
RIP, not knowing the circumstances but from my own family history, I know that suicide (or very premature death) can have multigenerational impact, its like a fault line in a family tree.
The investigators gatti's family hired ruled he was probably murdered, but the bullshit Brazilian authorities investigation ultimately ruled it a suicide and left it at that. Guy was killed Do people normally knock themselves out before they hang themselves ?
His body was exumed by a Quebec (not Brazilian) coroner and examined by pathologists. The pathology report of the autopsy found no clear sign of foul play. My sister's a pathologist. Trust me, they know their shit -- moreso than potentially biased private investigators PAID FOR by the Gatti family to come to a conclusion. Obviously those "independent investors" are going to spin a narrative that the Gatti family wants to hear. Gatti killed himself, Neil. He was a bipolar alcoholic who almost certainly had some extent of CTE. Its far-fetched to conclude murder. Unlike the Arguello case, where Arguello had powerful political enemies in Nicaraguan and supposedly shot himself twice in the heart. A government is more suited to stage a murder as suicide than one petite, Brazilian bitch is.
Not buying it The Brazilian mark fuhrmans botched the shit. Anything learned after that is tainted 1 small Brazilian bitch can easily enlist the help of others. Who in the fuck hangs themselves with a purse ? I dont even like gatti, never did
A person operating on drunken, CTE impulse will hang themselves with anything. I'm not saying its an impossibly. I just think the more likely scenario is suicide. Do I 100% rule-out the bitch? No.
People hang themselves with weird things all the time in jails and asylums. And that he hung himself with a purse (seems to recall it was a belt though, but my point still stand) make it even less suspicious imo. If it was a murder, why the fuck would they have used a purse and not a rope?
It just takes a pretty significant leap of faith to buy this one as murder. As I said, not impossible, but also not likely. Arguello and Liston, much less of a leap of faith. Those two cases pretty clearly point to murder.
Pat Lynch financed the investigation I think. I believe the investigation uncovered something like “he may have been murdered” No kind of smoking gun that they wanted where a bunch of evidence pointed to murder. D’Angelo Epstein Barksdale Going on a tangent here, but any excuse for me to discuss my favorite show. Did you think Avon was considering ordering it himself at one point? I didn’t notice it at first but I rewatched it a couple years ago. There’s one scene when Avon and String are talking through the jail phone. It’s after Dee is being cold and distant towards Avon about the hot shots. Avon is saying to Stringer “push comes to shove…I’ve been fair to him, right?….asking for re-assurance (out of character) from Stringer that he’s been good to Dee. It seemed like he was talking himself up, like preparing for what he thinks he might have to do. Stringer sees this and decides it’s best to go ahead with it and that Avon would begrudgingly accept it in the long run should he find out.
I do recall that scene. 'More than fair' was stringers response wasn't it? Maybe avon calls that shot but still was upset at stringer because he felt it was his decision to make as family
thats a shame. r.i.p. and for the record didnt arguellos father attempt suicide in front of him when he was a child. the guy also had issues with drugs and alcohol. but i do remember hearing the circumstances were questionable at best. same with valeros suicide in prison. only one of the famous ones that almost mustve been a murder was sonny liston.
Arguello was a good man and a great fighter. Valero was a piece of shit and a fraud, so I dont care either way. Suicide or murder, glad he's dead.
Sophia Gatti, late Arturo Gatti Jr’s sister, has started a Go Fund me to help with the following: -Investigative team to get autopsy, toxicology, reports. -Attorneys/court cost. -Transport of body to Canada to be buried with his dad. https://x.com/BOXINGnBBQ/status/1978207602220638248?t=9ONpHZGq6IpSHddDJkluRA&s=19
Yes. Alexis Arguello looks for escape from a life of despair ESPN.com: BOXING - Arguello: "I wanted to die" Arguello himself was suicidal as well so I believed he did it when I heard the news……but then other stories came out about questionable factors regarding his death. I always thought of Joe Louis and Alexis Arguello as having some similarities in the ring (beautiful KO artists with variety of punches, economy of movement, classy sportsmen) as well as outside the ring. They had a lot of demons but seemed like decent, generous people whom very few people (if any) in the sport would say a negative word about.
Louis and Arguello were very similar, yes. They had the two most picture perfect right crosses in the history of the sport.
