I had been looking for this fight online for over 10 years. I used to have it on VHS in the pre-YT days, and thankfully someone finally uploaded the full thing. I think this is one of the best performances of peak Duran. Certainly, his best performance in a non-title fight (this fight was at 140). Villa was a very solid fighter, but the way Duran just utterly dismantled him was masterful. The infighting, the countering, the controlled ferocity, the seamless integration of offense and defense -- a legit case for the best fighter to ever put on gloves. There is just no way in Hell I would take a Floyd or a Pac over this kind of Duran. Especially not Pac. Roberto Durán vs Emiliano Villa Boxing Fight HD Jul 31, 1976
Villa was being absolutely battered, man. That was an early stoppage only by 1970s standards. Today, it would have been stopped earlier. You see that Villa didn't complain at all.
Dude was a fighting machine. I think a prime Pea is the only guy at 135 I could see potentially getting a W on him. Floyd and Pac would be competitive but I can’t see either one beating him.
Gonzalez never quit and none of his losses seen to get expunged or overlooked even if they are undeserved
Choco also didn't have a fraction of the resume. And just plainly, he wasn't anywhere near as good. Duran was better at every single aspect of the game. Put them in a P4P match-up, lightweight Duran beats 10 shades of shit outta Choco.
