Inspired by Shakur’s dominant performance against Teo. What are some other pure boxing stand outs of a southpaw absolutely schooling a top fighter? I’m reminded of that time when Rigondeaux outclassed Donaire.
My all time favorite in this category will always be Nunn vs Tate. That is THE best virtuoso performance of a southpaw imo.
Donaire was considered a top 3 to 5 fighter in the world then. And had never come close to losing so there's that. And was also the favorite. Stevenson closed at 3-1 favorite
Winky Wright’s dominant performances against Shane Mosley and Felix Trinidad should be mentioned. Pernell Whitaker’s virtuoso performance against Haugen and Ramirez 2 are my personal favorite southpaw schooling.
With Ramirez and particularly haugen, youre using the term 'top'fighter loosely Whitaker chavez, now you're talking
Even though Frank Tate was no great, I listed Nunn-Tate because Nunn was an underdog in that matchup. Tate was the undefeated Olympic gold medalist.
The Chavez clinic itself is very overrated imo. Whitaker's best clinic on a great fighter is the Nelson fight. That was 1990 peak Whitaker. By 93, Whitaker was nearing the end of his peak.
I’d consider those two top fighters when taking into account that Haugen did beat Camacho, Paz and Mancini while Ramirez beat Rosario (first Whitaker fight doesn’t count). Forgot to mention Whitaker against Azumah Nelson, that was a good showing from him against an ATG.
Nelson fight was boring and Nelson wasn't ever a lightweight. Chavez fight was more impressive win BY FAR to me, whether or not it was some virtuoso performance where he didn't get touched
Sergio Martínez looking marvelous against Dzinzuruk. I remember being so impressed with that performance.
Not on the level of some of the contenders already listed but Calzaghe beating Kessler was probably the fight which pushed him into hall of fame consideration
