Mayweather hurt shoulder...bullshit...it was shoulder...other say it was his wrist...his hands...blah...excuses...

Castillo gave him a tough fight....and that was it...

Mayweather always has some injury when he looks less than great in a fight....

I think it's a valid point to bring up the Castillo fights when, all things considered, JLC may have been the best opponent of Mayweather's career.

I consider Castillo, at the weight and time of his career, the best opponent Mayweather's fought...followed by guys like Corrales, DLH and Hatton.

So how Mayweather fared against him is important when putting his career into perspective.

I do think it is over used as a "blueprint" of how to beat Mayweather, as though anybody (like Baldomir) can do the same...but some of that is due to people not giving Castillo the credit he deserves.

Mayweather injured his left shoulder and left hand in the Famoso Hernandez fight. He had trouble lifting his left arm after the first Castillo victory.

Long story short: Castillo shouldn't have given away the first five rounds.

I don't think Castillo "gave them away" ala Hagler-Leonard. I think he just had trouble with Mayweather's style and was being a bit too patient.

I was over in Hamilton a couple weeks ago having a few pints with Gatti, and I notice this cute looking girl at the next table... I start chatting it up. Next thing you know, Gatti is using his outside voice asking me if I dealt with my crabs. :dunno:

Nah, you'll know the next time I'm in Ontario. We'll round Hanzy and Gatti up for a grand night on the town.

Right, and the only way you could argue that Castillo deserved the decision is by saying that he won every round from six to twelve, which he didn't. He didn't win the decision because he didn't deserve the decision. The only thing fishy about the fight was the scorecards.

There is no way in hell you can say Floyd won that fight, but judging a fight is an opinion regardless, saying Floyd won is blindness......that's the difference.

You do have to give Floyd credit where credit is due. He changed his game plan by running like the wind. Castillo had no gameplan to combat this, or skill that is to trap him to fight. Floyd did just enough to win and has been following that game plan ever since.

Floyd won that fight clearly. Harold Lederman was waaaay off in that one and everyone was influenced by him.

Floyd CLEARLY won the first 4. He may have won the fifth also.

Therefore for Castillo to have won, it would mean that he won 7 of the last 8.

    nonsense.

Floyd won the 8th, the 10th and the 11th as well. There was another round which looked like Floyd's also, but I can't remember which one it was....

So what you're saying is that you had Floyd winning 9 rounds to 3?

haha. You live in hamilton, correct?

Let's get together and watch the fight again...and let's see you justify giving Castillo 7 rounds or more.

i thought floyd won, but the decision was debatable.

looked as though floyd, like everyone else, didn't think too much of castillo prior to their first meeting.

it would've been cool had castillo gotten the decision. then the rematch would've garnered more interest, rather than ending up as a co-feature on klitschko-mccline

Well, we would have to watch it at a neutral ground, it's only fair. If not Hanzy, than Kaliber44, your pick. :tease:

    Funny

I just watched the rematch. Top rank classics channel shows random shit

Nostalgia to that time compelled me to stop and watch without distractions

Maybe Castillo won 2 rounds if you give him the benefit of the doubt early on

Ill have more to say later perhaps but this is never brought up among Mayweather jrs best wins and is largely mentioned as boring

I just wonder what these boxing fans/media who praise NDG Haney for his alleged master class of norman consider this fight

Haney landed double digit punches maybe 1 0f 12 rounds and there's a 7 minute long video of clinches during that Victory

This vs norman a fuckin nobody.

Mayweather jr clinched and moved some but still managed to hit his opponent 162 times.

CaSTILLeO is a borderline hall of famer, blackballed for his fuckery vs corrales mostly, who was a skilled, crafty weight felon at 135

It’s been years since I saw it, but I thought Castillo took too long to get going so I didn’t have a problem with Floyd getting the decision.

I wish Castillo had gotten the decision though. Maybe Floyd would have been less careful with his matchmaking
