Remember when they asked Jerry Lewis to do a Japanese accent and he knocked it out of the park?

It's crazy how many accents there are in the UK. Canada is the second largest country in the world and there are like two.:Jest:

Yup. You can drive 20 miles in the UK and hear a different accent in some parts.

Look at the US. While we have plenty of variations in the Northeast, Midwest & South, once you get west of the Rocky Mountains it's pretty much the same vanilla accent.

They did movie about Duran and the guy playing Duran looked like an amateur bodybuilder.

Boxers look like they haven't eaten for a month. They have longer arms than the average human, generally. They look skinny but have an unusually thicker neck and/or bigger hands.

They don't look like creatine-swillling doormen

No. You were right about that although in reality, everyone in this country got away with shit like that until around the late 80's. Sanitizing Anerica's wicked ways took place from around 1990-2020 & now we're at the "Did we go too far?" phase.

That joke clip was for your impossible not to notice, five posts a day blaming Jews for every problem on earth lately. You've become the Irish Mel Gibson.

I watched it the other day. Not terrible

The guy they picked for Hamed was OK, whether or not he resembled him

It was more about Brendan ingle and their relationship than anything else

Zero mentioned about his post boxing career. It basically ended after the barrera fight

It was ok. The acting wasn't bad, but the writing really wasn't very good, just felt they tried to cram as much in as they could into an hour and a half and it just didn't click, same thing as the Foreman film.

Boxing biopics only really work if you focus on a specific part of the fighter's career, rather than their entire life story, as it is just too much to fit in. The exception is if it is done as a television series, where you can really develop the story, but that hasn't been done yet.

It needs the TV treatment to make room for the music, the fashion, the vibe of the period etc.

I think that's the case for all biopics, doesn't really matter the person. I guess the reason they don't do them in a television series is that no single person is that interesting, You could still make the show very good, but it would have to cover a lot of other people more in depth which would get away from the main subject too much.

Like you said if they made a film of only a certain time frame, it would likely come out better because they wouldn't have to do the cramming.

I always felt the Louis-Schmeling story would be brilliant if done as a TV series in the right hands. With the nature of the fights, the race angle, the backdrop of WWII, the way their lives panned out after the war, the friendship they developed etc. Broadly though, I agree, no one boxer is that interesting, bar Ali, and they've already fucked that up.

They'd need to allocate at least 3 outta 10 episodes of the series to johnny "the entertainer" Nelson

Most boxers are pretty uninteresting persons. What's there to tell about Hamed, bar his boxing career? That he was a muslim and the child of immigrants? Cant really make a movie out of that. And even his boxing career is kinda dull. He had a few good fights and the crazy entrance, and he was kinda funny, but he never had a nemesis, which is pretty much essential if you want to tell a good story a posteriori.

A serie of "he beat this guy, and that guy. And also that guy" doesn't make for a compelling narrative
