Let them fight NOW and we'll see who kicks whose ass. Silva I say would smash him to pieces if they fight today IMO. Looking at Ortiz's performances, first off he would get stood up in the Pride ring everytime he's groping a guy on the mat. He'd get a percentage of his purse cut too. And since he can't fight for shit standing, he's dead meat against Silva. I don't consider Ortiz a pure bum. He's got enough talent to make a good fight against most. I don't think much of his comp lately. And yes, Forrest beat his ass fair and square. Ortiz got a gift. Forrest won 2 rounds to 1. No doubt about it whatsoever. Only Ortiz fans have tried to back up their boy.
I agree that Silva would most likely brutalize Ortiz now. But I disagree that Forrest beat Ortiz. This was simply a case of Forrest doing SO MUCH BETTER than anyone thought he would...that people say he won. He ddidn't win that fight, and didn't even fight it close enough for a draw. Ortiz won, just not in the impressive fashion that we all THOUGHT he would. That's not a loss dude.
Please bro. You have to do something more than the other guy to win a decision. That was absurd, even the commentators were confused as hell as to how Ortiz could be awarded all 3 rounds which was as bullshit as Holyfield receiving a draw against Lewis. Ortiz won the first round clearly. Midway, Griffin stood him up, dominated Tito standing. 2nd round, more of the same. Griffin dominated standing. 3rd round, Griffin dominated standing, Ortiz scored a shitty takedown and did ZERO damage. Griffin powered his way back up to his feet, and continued dominating while standing. Bullshit decision IMO.:nixweiss: Ortiz got a gift. The crowd booed the shit out of him for that gift, even the fighters around in the crowd called it bullshit.
BTW, what do you mean exactly about Forrest doing so much better than anyone thought he would? A host of cats on here, myself included, picked Forrest to defeat Ortiz. Looking decent against Ortiz wasn't that big of a deal. When was the last guy Ortiz completely dominated in grand fashion? Ken Shamrock in 2002 wasn't it? Come on!
Griffin isn't considered an elite UFC 205 pounder . I remember reading here before that fight, and very little people were giving Forrest a chance of winning. At best, most thought he would turn in a gutsy performance......and he did. But he DID not beat Tito Ortiz. Ortiz was disappointing in that fight, and I hated to see him win. But he did more actual damage, and at times dominated more than Griffin did him. Forrest Griffin did not beat Tito Ortiz.
No one won or lost that fight....MMA is as easy to judge on scorecards as boxing is..... No one dominated the fight, no one came close....That fight, as many other MMA fights are, is left open ended..... If nothing else, like Penn and GSP, that fight needed to be 5 rounds, something i think MMA organizations will have to lean a little more towards
Pride's old rules were best: Tiebreaker round. That, or score a fight a godamn draw you bitches. Thats the biggest problem with using a ten point must system for 3 round fights. It doesn't give a true indication of a winner alot of the time, nor was the point system designed to be used over such short distances. Its the UFC's fuckup and their play at making it easier for fans to pickup and score, due to the boxing similarities. PS: Prides scoring system is much prefered to this garbage.
UFC needs to stop sucking boxing's dick and go about their shit that'll make scoring fights easier. Enough with the ten point must bullshit. It ain't boxing.
PRIDE does it right for MMA. No bullshit decisions, and most always a DEFINITE winner with their round times and rules. There is never a questionable decision in PRIDE.
If I had too give Tito vs Griffin fight to anyone it would be Ortiz for doing more damage and going for the finish in the end................FG dominating the standup battle??.Come the fuck on Hanzy your better than this:nono:
Problem with fans who debate about crap like this is that they debate after having viewed and studied the fight umpteen times, looking for every possible way to score it for Ortiz. Upon the initial live viewing, you had a different perspective of the fight. It's kinda like when you watched Tyson/Holyfield 1 LIVE and saw Holyfield beat his ass badly over 11 rounds. Then you pop that tape back in the next day, and you're watching parts of it in slo-motion, rewinding certain bits, observing with a more keen eye while sober, and then you think "Hey, look at how many headbutts Holyfield is delivering, I counted 8, this is an outrage, this was pure cheating, Holyfield should've been deducted or disqualified, Tyson was coming on and hurting him, Holyfield got lucky!!!!" It's just the nature of the beast. Now I can guarantee that when I pop that Ortiz/Griffin tape back into the VCR and watch it again for the 3rd time, I'm going to think "Wow, look....Griffin isn't as dominant as I first thought." Maybe I'll think Ortiz did deserve to win that fight because of what I'm hearing from alot of fans on here. Or I might think Ortiz still deserved to lose or should've been a draw at best. I won't deny one thing though, the commentators, the fighters at ringside and most fans in the arena did not have Ortiz winning that fight that night.
Mir looks to be in terrible shape, gassed within the first minute of the first round, and was nearly armbarred, but still pretty much controlled the action
So what. Like I said before, the thing that initially led most to believe that Griffin may have eeked it out, is that he did much better against Ortiz than most anyone thought he would. But he sure as hell didn't win, and the judges did their jobs by scoring it as EXPERT judges, and not being biased either way.
