I haven't kept up to date with MMA in recent months and had no idea this fight even happened until hanzy mentioned it. I saw it today without knowing the result and was pretty shocked. For a start, despite being different weight classes, there didn't appear to be a huge size difference. There's what - 15 pounds or so? And silva beat fujita, who's heavier than crocop. And I think they are both excellent fighters, both good all round really, and both pretty tough. I thought cro cop would win but I thought it would be very evenly matched. Sila is a warrior and I was sure he'd give a good account of himself at least. Was anyone else shocked at how EFFORTLESSLY crop cop pimpslapped him? He didn't even break a sweat, just beat silva to a bloody pulp and knocked him the fuck out. Silva looked like he absolutely didn't stand a chance in there. That straight left and that left high kick are just mean. Was anyone else surprised not that crocop won, but how incredibly easily he won?
I was surprised. But I also think CroCop was very angry. He hates Silva as he said in the pre-fight interview and his intention was to really hurt Silva. To deliver the kind of pain to Silva which Silva himself enjoys inflicting on others. Silva was actually a bit heavier than CroCop in this fight but even so, he's physically inferior. Somebody had a pic of Silva's ribs after Cro landed his first kick. Silva's whole side was bruised and it looked like there was a bone protruding through the skin near his ribcage. Silva is a tough guy though, but he's not a true heavyweight. You can tell by his bodysize that he's going by on toughness, determination, and grits but that can only take you so far. He's a middleweight. If CroCop didn't brutally bury him, then somebody else would've like Fedor or some other heavyweight. Silva would've gotten butchered eventually. Dana White has said the Silva/Liddell fight for November in the UFC is now off.
Interesting Hanzy. Did mirko state why he hates wanderlei? Is it because of the sadistic element that cropcop wanted to give silva a taste of? I'm still a little surprised. Mirko looked as deadpan as he ever does, not fired up etc. Do you think silva tried his best in there, but cabbagecop was simply too good? It was just surprising to see silva not stand a chance, barely land a punch, get beaten to a pulp and then knocked out cold.
The fact is, CroCop is just that good. Against Barnett or Nog, Wanderlei would have won it even though he would be the physically smaller guy. Crocop is a physical speciman who trains diligently and has great striking ability...and is a MUCH larger man than Wanderlei Silva. Weight does not even equal size. I was surprised how easy it was for Cop to lay hurt on Silva at first,.but then as I though about it, I wasn't surprised. He is one of if not THE most powerful one strike heavyweight in the world of MMA, and Silva is not a heavyweight. Silva was never able to land anything on Mirko. Mirko layed the first wood and never really allowed Silva to land anything or get anything going.
Yeah, that confuses the hell out of even the most elite fighters. You never know where CroCop's kick is gonna land. Really hard to dodge those kicks. Even Fedor almost got caught with a high kick but luckily, Cro launched it a few inches too high. I always figured that the best thing to do in order to deal with CroCop's kicks is to continuously move to your left. Just like a smart boxer will move to his left to deal with a southpaw. The left kick will lose steam when it's trying to catch a target that's moving to the left. Most fighters just stand squared up, looking to block the kicks full steam by just bracing themselves. It's better to stay on your toes and keep moving in the direction which will lessen the impact of the kick.
The Liddell\Silva fight was never gonna happen. The whole thing was a scam. Pride used the UFC to drum up interest in their Vegas debut. And it worked too, as Yahoo searches for Wanderlei Silva and Pride were up by over 400% after the fight was announced. Dana White is pretty saavy, I'm amazed he got played like he did. I'll bet you it'll never happen again. Anyway, here's the fight.... http://www.milbestlight.com/default_age.aspx As with everything on Youtube, watch it now, because it could be deleted tomorrow. TFK
Hold up TFK. Now let's realize something here. Liddell/Silva was a proposed fight BUT did you not hear it from Dana's own mouth regarding the small print? He said 'IF', blah blah blah..... Now, Liddell demolished Babalu. But everybody was already aware including Dana himself that Silva was participating in the Pride Grand Prix. The fight between Liddell/Silva could only happen barring injuries. And Silva got almost killed by CroCop. Liddell/Silva was never truly ever set in stone. Things had to fall into place perfectly before the fight could be made. Silva is in no shape to fight now, not after getting his face and ribs smashed in and battered into a bloody mess. He won't be ready for another big fight till next year. Pride didn't use the UFC. The fight would happen if both fighters are healthy and ready to go. And you know that Silva was almost put into his death bed by CroCop. How can you lay blame on Pride for the fight not happening? It might happen later on.:nixweiss:
I saw a clip on youtube. OMG did Silva get absolutely destroyed. I mean he just got flat out raped by Crocop. This is a far cry from when they fought the first time, however at that time, Crocop was just entering Pride and it was somewhat of an exhibition match. Crocop looked substantially bigger though even though Silva was heavier from what I read.
The fight was called off about a month before Silva fought Cro Cop. The fight was never gonna happen. Silva losing had nothing to do with it. TFK
