Monson took his lumps early in his MMA career, but now after 16 straight wins, he will finally get his rewards. Sylvia isn't the scrub that most try to make him out to be. He is a huge guy with good technical skills and good power. But his wins over the hugely overrated Arlovski didn't help him to evolve at all. Arlovski is a guy who loves the standup. Sylvia loves the standup. Monson loves the GNP, and has great wrestling and underrated submission skills. The only way that Sylvia wins this one is to catch Jeff early before going to the ground. If Monson gets the takedown, he will bust Sylvia up good and probably either submit him or get the TKO. I say he gets Sylva down annd out.

Monson is a world class wrestler, but I just can't see him beating Sylvia. Tim get's zero respect, even from the UFC, and that's not right, especially after beating Arlovski twice, when everyone was on Andre's nuts. Plus, Monson has a loss to Forrest Griffin, and can anyone imagine Griffin beating Sylvia? Me either. I think the fight will be pretty boring, Sylvia trying for the KO, and Monson trying to get it to the ground. I pick Sylvia either by late KO or by decision. Unfortunately, I won't be able to see this fight as it happens since that is my wedding night. TFK
Monson might be a world class wrestler, but he has shit all else, besides some flashy tattoos and a balding resemblance to Ian Freeman. Sylvia is a pretty fine wrestler himself and Jeff is going to take kicks, knees and punches all over his body while trying to get it to the ground. Monson is not even being remotely competetive in this fight.
.... This isn't a complicated fight. If Monson can get Sylvia down even 1 time he can win this fight. Sylvia isn't really that easy to take down though and if it don't hit the ground Monson will get destroyed.
Sylvia's wrestling isn't really good. He is also not a fast striker, if Sylvia defends the take down it will be by stuffing Monson not striking. I see Sylvia taking this though. He is huge and will probably stuff the takedown. Easy fight for Sylvia defend the takedown and don't get pushed into the fence. Two things he shouldn't really have a problem with. Though I hope he gets his arm broke again, I hate having to watch him hall his big ass around the ring. No disrecpect as a person but as a fighter he is more boring then Arona.
Arona is alright anyway. Matt Lindland is the most boring fighter on the face of the planet. He's so boring AIDS would sooner leave your system then hang around waiting for him to finish a fight. And Sylvia is a very good wrestler. Its a fact and I won't argue it.
No it's not a fact. The two times he need to use decent hips he didn't and got tapped. He has slow powerfull hips, good for striking but not for any ground work. He never shoots for a take down so we don't know how good his takedowns are. Did you see the Lindland/Horn or Lindland/Rampage fight? Much more exciting then Sylvia's fights.
wow....lindland v rampage was one of linlands more exciting fights (next to the terrell fight) and it was still a bore....you think that was better than Tim vs andrei 1 or 2, or tim vs telligman or cabbage?
I'd rather watch Lindland then any of Tim's fight. I just don't like the way he bangs. I'd rather watch a boxing match. Any time you see Lindland fight you can pick up on something. Fantastic wrestling and works really well in a full guard. Tim teaches you how to fashionable wear your title belt everywhere you go.
Monson has reeled off 16 wins against nobody of any consequence. He's slow as a snail and I think Sylvia will just tee off on him until the fight is stopped from an accumulation of punches. This fight will end in the first or second round.
Monson is slow. But Tim Sylvia is slow too, just not as slow. Sylvia has acheived what he has so far in MMA because of his size, strength and dedication. Not a great fighter, but an underrated yet flawed fighter. Arlovski proved to be overrated by the masses as well.
Arlovski is not overrated! Arlovski can fucking fight plain and simiple nobody thought Andrei was unstoppable but people with a brain knows the dude can fight and he can knock you the fuck out.
arlovski was getting a little over-hyped....he has next to zero recuperative ability...if he gets hurt, he's done...he's got ridiculous skills though
Why was he getting hyped? Cause he was knocking everybody the fucking out so the hype was warranted. I don't buy into the bullshit of Arlovski having a glass jaw:loveballs: The guy can fight and that's why people like him he's not overrated.
I didnt say he was overrated, just he got all of his hype right before a loss, which makes it look bad. And as far as the glass jaw, some guys are able to recover quickly whenver they get smashed, Arlovski hasnt proven to one of those guys. I'm not knocking him one bit. IMO opinion, he has the ability to beat anyone at anytime, but like everyone (except for maybe Fedor:jester: ), he has his faults
I agree with this and that's why he's not overrated. Anybody that has seen him fight a number of times knows he has some flaws but we know he can beat almost anyone on a good night. I'd love to see him fight Cro or Fedor I think it would be a good fight.
