Duran. He's slick enough to not get caught with consistency by Trinidad's shots, and tough enough to take them when Tito does land. He's also quicker with his hands, better on his feet, smarter, and more versatile. When he comes forward he'll punish Tito the body and land his share of shots upstairs as well. Duran would take his lumps in the process, but emerge with a clear decision win.
yeah Duran uses his busy, inside fighting with angles and short-punching to befuddle Trinidad, keep him from setting up, beat him to the punch, and win by decision, if not late TKO. UNnlike most guys at 147, Duran would not back up from Tito, and that would be the key.
Duran gets stopped late. The worst strategy you can have against Tito is to try and bring it to him. While a great infighter, Duran was also very stubborn and would get in the trenches with anybody regardless of size difference even when it wasn't in his best interest (see Barkley, Moore) Not to mention the fact that stamina was/is one of Tito's best attributes, and it definitely wasn't a strong point of Duran. Duran isn't going to get Tito out of there. And I disagree Double L, Duran not backing up definitely would be the key factor in this fight...but not for Duran to win it. How underrated Tito has become at welterweight for Duran to just unaninimously defeat him. Tito TKO 12.
The Duran that beat Palimino & Leonard would wipe his ass with Tito at 147. Why does the myth that is Felix Trinidad continue to live on? He was a goddamn good fighter, I'll give him that. But simply not on the level of ANY of the fab 4. I dont even think he'd have beaten Benitez.
When has an in the trenches brawler ever given Tito trouble? He wipes his ass with fighters like Duran. :warning:
Duran had a defense - an excellent one. Trinidad had none. It would look like they were trading shots, but Trinidad wouldn't land shit.
A prime Vargas would've given an older Duran (the 147-154 version) problems actually. I mean, Kirkland Laing.... ::
Duran was extremely inconsistent at 154. At his best at that weight however(when he beat Moore) he'd have beaten Vargas up brutally.
Shit, this is a 147-pound mathchup, not a 154-pound matchup. How hard is that to figure out, Alabama man?
I wasn't the one who brought up Vargas, another person brought him up and I addressed it. btw, how is your leaky chest wound and bad kidney sweet cakes? ::
Just proving a point that basing an argument on fantastical circumstances really doesn't help anyone's argument.
True, but I think you're using fantastical situations to explain an already fantastical matchup. You've surpassed your standard deviation threshold. :notallthere:
But your point was stupid, and ill-formed. The original post was about comparing Tito's competition to Duran. That's a valid point.
How so? People act like Vargas was trash, but he had wins over Stinky Wright, and Ike Quartey before he fought Tito in his prime. I think Vargas pre-Tito would give problems to 147-154 Duran and could beat him. He's bigger, probably faster, and had a good jaw before Tito. If Kirkland Laing could school Duran, Vargas of 1999-2000 could as well. Beating burnt out Palomino, and quitting against Leonard don't impress me. His only marquee victory at 147 was against Leonard who fought out of style to prove a point and still made it close. School is excused.
Now you're contradicting yourself. And it was stupid of you to say he'd beat Duran in his prime. You're comparing Vargas to the bloated Duran of 1982, rather than Duran in his prime at welterweight, from 1978 to 1980.
Now you're inventing points that were never brought up. I said Vargas would give Duran problems whether Duran was 147-154, that doesn't mean just the 1982 version of Duran, only you talk in specifics like that. Tito accomplished 20 times more at Welterweight than fat Duran.
He beat a coked-up Whitaker, Oba Carr and Hector Camacho against losing to Oscar de la Hoya, while Duran beat Carlos Palomino and Sugar Ray Leonard. Oh, and calling Duran fat at 147 shows you've never even seen him at welterweight, true?
Duran's shining moment at 147 = NO MAS He has no heart which is why Tito would crush that pussy. :warning: Ray Gay is the only good victory Duran had at the weight and it was razor thin. Palomino had one foot out of the sport when fat Duran beat him.
