I'm a big fan of both fighters, but I have to go with Iron Mike here. The reason I would pick Tyson is because if there is anyone that can match hand speed with RJ it would have to be Mike. His combination punching was fierce. He also had the style to beat RJ which would be a very aggressive mule you down style. As gifted as RJ is I don’t see how he can back Tyson off and his punch resistant never was great. I say Tyson knocks him out late. Thoughts? This is one of the very few times that I would ever pick against RJ.:warning:
Due to styles I would concur with you. Mike KO's Roy P4P late. And if Roy had moved up to heavy and faced a prime Mike, he'd have lasted shorter than Spinks.
The only people who get into these "pound-for-pound" matchups are the ones who don't know shit. When did Mike Tyson EVER knock out anyone late?
And how does that have anything to do with a thread pondering a fight between Tyson and Jones? :dunno:
This "tyson never KO'd anyone late" crap is just stupid. First of all, he did KO someone in the late rounds. Second of all, it doesn't mean shit if we're talking about predictions. I bet nobody was predicting that Duran would quit in the rematch against Leonard or that Klitschko would get KO'd by Corrie Sanders in two, or that Hearns would lose a decision to Iran Barkeley or that....etc. Earnie Shavers, Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, and Foreman had a combined 9 people out past round 7. What on earth would make you hesitate to pick any of them by late KO? Stamina trouble?
So since there are upsets, we shouldn't make picks based on former fights? The WHAT AN EARTH should we base predictions on? Flipping a coin perhaps? Since Tyson hardly stopped people late, I think it is plausible to predict that he wouldn't stop Jones late either. But I guess with your logic you couldn't make a pick that prime Tyson would KO Eric Crumble just because Tyson is a KO artist and everybody has KOed Crumble
Very few. That's why I'd almost never pick Lewis to win by late KO. By the time Lewis got to round eight or so, he usually looked to make sure that the decision was clear enough, rather than knock the other guy out.
actually when u pick, it should involve simply styles make fights, and some comparison of skill. Saying Tyson only ever KO'd one person late is evidence that he couldn't KO someone late is just stupid. Tyson carries his power to late rounds, it just so happened that guys either a) stopped trying to win and held/ran (tillis) or b) Tyson KO'd them earlier because he almost never let someone off the hook once they wre hurt. great analogy on Tyson crumble. Me saying that just because something hasn't happened before doesn't mean it couldn't happen in a MM is exactly like saying Tyson couldn't KO Eric Crumble.
No. I said that it was a shitty pick. It is. If you have a mythical matchup between Chris Byrd and Ron Lyle, it's stupid to pick Byrd by KO, even though he knocked out Jose Ribalta.
All I said was that Tyson by KO late was a bad pick. You said it wasn't because Tyson KOed Ribalta late. That's stupid, because lots of shitty fighters beat Ribalta, including Byrd - by knockout. How hard is this for your pathetic brain to understand? Shit, you don't even know how to use Boxrec. No wonder this shithole fired you as a writer.
