I understand, but nonetheless find it interesting that people got somewhat excited at the pitch that Gatti might be even slightly competitive with Floyd, while no one believed that Gatti should be in the same ring as Oscar.

Gatti wasn't jumping two weight divisions to fight Floyd.

they both beat him equally bad in my opinion. But Gatti was already considered past his prime when Oscar beat him, so he was really shot when Floyd beat him.

Difference is Oscar didn't drop to his knees crying like he stoped Ray Robinson. It was a payday fight both times, only Floyd acted like it was a carreer defining fight.

Gatti was doing MUCH better before the Mayweather fight than before the De la Hoya fight. Before he fought Oscar, Gatti was drinking non-stop.

It seem at the time...that for DE La Hoya it was another sparring session.....for Mayweather it was the biggest fight of his life...the one that will make him whole....at the time....

he had a winning streak beating guys like Ward and Branco never with anybody worth a damn.

The point is he was already a damaged fighter that was gonna get his ass kicked the moment he steped up the competition. He was also older when he fought Mayweather and everyone knew it was a total mismatch. I don't see how that's an impressive with for Floyd. :dunno:

against Floyd it was also a payday that's why Floyd wanted the fight. Same with Oscar. but only Floyd acted like it was a carreer defining fight after the fight. All of a sudden he beat a warrior and not a fucking bum.

Rubio was right as Gatti was on a perceived roll heading into the Floyd fight.

It was just weird to see the pre-fight hype billing both fighters as almost equals in the ring.....oh well, brilliant (Arum) promoting at it's best.

That's stupid. Before the Oscar fight, Gatti was in the middle of a bad period of alcoholism. Alcohol damaged him. He managed to get his life together afterwards.

Well, Gatti fired his trainer after the De La Hoya fight because he was pissed that he threw the towel in..

Gatti barely uttered a groan when McGirt stopped the Mayweather fight..

My guess is that Arturo would pick Mayweather in this poll..

I voted the same, it's just that their methods differed.

For this particular fight, it's pointless to compare performances on the basis of who got hit more or less.

If Oscar wanted to, he could've easily waltzed around Gatti and Arturo would'nt have been able to lay a glove on him. Given the galactic disparity in basically everything, DLH was essentially fighting a midget. He traded with Gatti because Arturo absolutely posed no threat to him. He took some to give a lot.

Floyd on the other hand, pursued a safer, more precise approach. Hence, the methodical beatdown and Gatti's near non-existant punch connect on him. He didn't want Arturo to hit him. DLH blitzkrieged Gatti.

    Exactly.

Gatti was a scrub fight for DLH. For Floyd, the perception was different.

sure he got himself in order but that didn't bring back his prime. he was still the same fighter who took alot of damage throughout his carreer and the more he fought the more damage he took. He was older and more damaged when Floyd fought him.

I don't think much of Oscar or Floyd beating him. The difference is Floyd acted like it was a great win even though everyone knew it was a mismatch with a decent payday.

Same shit now, everyone knows Floyd is suposed to beat Oscar yet when he beats him Oscar will go from being an old shot fighter to a boxing legend on Floyds resume.

    wow, talk about knit picking:notallthere:

I voted the same....Floyd had it easier and looked slightly more impressive, but Oscar was trying out a new style and was pretty much toying with Gatti to give him some rounds. No doubt he coulda ended it in two if he felt like it...as soon as he felt like it he finished it. Plus Gatti actually tried against him.

    I say about even.

No doubt Floyd was extremely impressive against gatti, literally made him look like a punch bag and barely got hit at all. BUT that fight meant something to Floyd, make no mistake, it was a spirited effort. Despite being much better than gatti, he took the fight seriously and wanted to be impressive.

Oscar on the other hand, didn't take gatti seriously at all. Yet as soon as he turned the heat up, gatti was gone. Floyd had to box brilliantly round after round and bash gatti countless times to get the stoppage.

So what you're basically saying is that Oscar deliberately stayed in the fight longer than he needed to so that he could get his own nose and mouth bloodied a little more just for fun.

Oscar didn't suddenly turn up the heat...it was the same "heat" he was applying since the first round, it's just that by the 5th Gatti had had enough...

I didn't mention the word 'fun', Sly. I said he was trying out a new style and probably wanted the rounds. But then it's totaly unheard of for a boxer to hold back from 5th gear under those circumstances isn't it?

Oscar was fighting no differently in the round where he got the stoppage than in rounds 1 - 4. It's just that by the 5th, Gatti was done!

The Mayweather fight is fresher in my mind that Gatti's fight with Oscar so i went for that one. Both fights were mismatches and the outcome was never in doubt though.

Oscar ripped Gatti apart and stopped him for real .....
Not to mention this was a Gatti a hell of allot closer to prime then the version Mayweather fought ...
Leading up to DLH , Gatti won 4 straight fights and won his next fight after DLH ... Gatti actually tried Vs DLH instead of the version that we seen Vs Mayweather. An older Gatti complaining about being weight drained etc. and then on fight night he didn't even try ...
DLH battered him hard and he didn't give a shit if he got hit because Gatti was no real threat ...
Mayweather celebrates the Gatti victory like Freitas celebrates his last quit job ... The best night of their lives ...

Who beat Roberto Duran more convincing - Sugar Ray Leonard or Joppy ..

    best way of putting it.

Against Oscar, Gatti looked like a punching bag that swung back every once in a while.

Against Floyd, Gatti just looked like a punching bag.
