Forgive me if I forget a couple, nobody's perfect! Eubank Watson 2, round 11 (Best of all time) Hagler Hearns, round 1 Morales Barrera 1, round 5 Barrera Morales 3, round 11 Corrales Castillo 1, round 10 Gatti Ward, round 9 Benn Barkely, round 1 Dempsey Firpo, round 1 Leonard Hagler, round 9 Foreman-Lyle, round 4 Trinidad Vargas, round 9 Holmes Norton, round 15 Ali Spinks 1, round 15 Ali Shavers, round 15 Leonard Hearns 1, round 13 Holyfield Bowe 1, Round 10 Holyfield Cooper, Round 3 Patterson Johnasson 3, Round 1 How would you rank these round? Do you have any others that SHOULD be on the list?
Great round for sure. The excessive spitting out of the mouthpiece..and the subsequent delays...spoiled it a little for me though, stopping it from being #1. Watson-Eubank 2, round 11 was INCREDIBLE. The heart, courage and determination displayed in that round is largely unmatched in the sport's history.
2/3 of your picks are taken from Ring magazine's Fight of the Year awards: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_Magazine_round_of_the_year It's obvious that you used that list to compose yours. You've no more seen Dempsey-Firpo than flapped your arms and flown.
Corrales-Castillo I rds 8 and 10 Barrera-Morales I rd 5 Cooper-Moorer rd 1 Holyfield-Bowe I rd 10 Holyfield-Cooper rd 3 Hagler-Mugabi rd 6 Hagler-Hearns rd 1 Norris-Waters rd 2 Liles-Littles II rd 2 Hamed-Kelley rd 2 Foreman-Lyle rds 4 and 5 Meza-Garza rd 1 Casamayor-Corrales I rd 3 (or 4, whatever round when they both got dropped)
This looks cut and pasted from a Ring Magazine issue I've read. You are so unimaginative stafford! How do you expect to cut it in Hollywood with an attitude like this?:dunno:
I would have Caveman Lee - John Locicero round 5 I think, in there. It wasn't that great a fight as Lee dominated most of the way, but that last round was sensational. The best I saw was the last round of Corrales-Castillo 1 (10)
Dude, why do you think that you're the only one who has access to fights in the black and white era? I'm sure I could find Dempsey-Firpo even on youtube if I wanted.
Not a best round but a very action-packed round for huge heavyweights would be Lewis/Klitschko round 3. Lewis rocked, comes back and hurts Klitschko a bit, both guys throwing with all their might. It was a decent round. That was, as Merchant put it "Gatti/Ward at the highest level on the scale!"
I'd rather Hollywood to Bollywood, to be honest Mr Singh. But that aside.. I didn't research these rounds, or cut and paste them
You have little to no shot in either, so why bother staffy?:: At least not with that arrogant attitude of yours.:nono:
That being said, this is a fairly good idea for a topic, and here are some of my picks, with explanations: Chavez-Taylor I, round 12: This has to be one of the most heartbreaking rounds in the history of boxing. The mere mention of it will spark heated debate among most fans. Moore-Durell I, round 1: Here, you had the drama of the great Archie Moore - then older than Bernard Hopkins is now - finally losing his title to the young fisherman. I can't understand how it was like then to watch this match, but current viewers know that Moore is going to win. Watching it through modern eyes is incredible. To us, that first round is a TKO, the fight a perfect example of how harder a sport boxing was back then. Tyson-Spinks, round 1: I can't view this fight through the eyes of history, because I remember this fight as if it were yesterday. A lot of people were looking at Tyson as if he was the best fighter ever, not just at heavyweight, but pound-for-pound. Will Smith wrote a rap about him. Who would have known that it would all be over so quickly? Tunney-Dempsey II, round 7: This was Chavez-Taylor I, round 12 for two generations. Tunney had easily won every round of the fight, and then the Dempsey of old trapped Tunney against the ropes and went into his famous Dempsey Roll, raining power punch after power punch on the helpless Tunney. What happened afterwards was Dempsey's fault. He was the one who insisted that after a knockdown, you go to the neutral corner, but he wouldn't go. Tunney was on the floor for 14 seconds, but he wasn't counted out. For the rest of the fight, Tunney continued to dominate, and didn't even think of getting anywhere near the ropes.
Sechew Powell-Cornelius Bundrage all 3 punches of it Probably not one of the best rounds in boxing history as far as action, but for rarity, it should be up there
Not that I need to convince you.. But I'll tell you that, in London (England) there were (in the late 80s and 90s) many video stores which carried documentaries on legendary fights...some hosted by a combination of Mike Tyson and Larry Merchant and a few others...and I've seen as many as I could get my hands on. Nevertheless..continue thinking whatever makes you happy...
dsimon writes: The best rounds I ever googled... I mean saw! :: Pretty much the whole Douglas Tyson fight. Especially the round where Douglas got a slightly long count after the knock down. I remember thinking that the fight would not be much to watch but the beer was cold. It was captivating, nobody could believe it as Douglas manages to last round after round... He looked like Ali! It was unbelievable. I thought the Brewster Vlad fight was pretty intense also. Of the older fights: 1) The second Lewis Schmelling fight... or round.
Chavez-Taylor I round 10 and round 6 of their rematch were also excellent rounds. I also liked round 9 of Holmes-Witherspoon.
Round 9 of Morales-Maidana Round 9 of Jofre-Medel I Round 1 of Olivares-Lopez Round 6 Marciano-Moore Round 8 Saad-Lopez II Round 8 Saad-Johnson II
Best rounds, 1 to 15. Round 1: Mancini-Frias/Hagler-Hearns Round 2: Norris-Waters Round 3: Arbachakov-Kittikasem I Round 4: Foreman-Lyle Round 5: Avelar-Vasquez (GOAT) Round 6: Griffith-Paret III Round 7: Yaegashi-Pornsawan Round 8: Franklin-Lopez II Round 9: Gatti-Ward I Round 10: Castillo-Corrales Round 11: Eubank-Watson II Round 12: Gomez-Pintor Round 13: Olivares-Kanazawa II Round 14: Chacon-Limon IV Round 15: Holmes-Norton
Weirdly enough, just rewatched Holmes Norton a few days ago anf i think it's a bit overrated. Norton pretty much dominated that round.
Two of the judges scored it to Holmes and that won him the fight. For what it's worth, I scored it even.
There was a really good series on ESB last year where we voted on the greatest 15 rounds of all time round by round - so the best round 1s, the best round 2s and so on. The one catch was that each round had to be a full, completed 3 minutes so that ruled out rounds like Castillo-Corrales round 10 but I think the selections were excellent.
