For someone who apparently isn't marketable... he certainly did a good job of talking his way in to the spotlight for this fight. This fight was easily bigger than any Oscar fight since Tito. Floyd, if even for a night, seperated himself from Mosley, Vargas and Hopkins.

The main reason Joe Sports was interested in this fight was because of Floyd's mouth. Everyone wanted to see the guy they had heard of (De La Hoya) beat this young, brash kid. So for that, I give Mayweather credit. He did a fine job of promoting this fight, whether you agree with his attitude or not.

To hardcore fans Floyd is the biggest star in boxing.

    Speaking of promoting...

"Oscar is a great fighter and he can take a punch, I know that and that's why I feel comfortable walking away from the sport at this time. I am a good guy, I feed the homeless, I feed battered women, I do good things. Now it is time for me to do things other than fight including my new promotional company Mayweather Promotions, and I'm sure Golden Boy and Mayweather Promotions will meet in the ring soon enough," said Mayweather Jr. (38-0, 24 KOs).

Floyd and Golden Boy will be cool soon enough I'm sure.

Floyd Promotions will be signing with Winky Promotions which is already signed with GBP.

    Indeed.

It takes TWO stars to make a megafight (public interest), not one.

If Floyd were not a star in his own right, this fight would just be another De La Hoya-Campas or De La Hoya-Castilego.

I couldn't disagree more. This fight was huge because of DLH. All Floyd did was talk gangsta shit, show he has no class, intelligence or dignity and do his best Lance Armstrong impression in the ring, stopping to punch Oscar De la Zombie every 30 seconds or so.

This fight had more mainstream appeal than Oscar's other fights this decade.

That's because of HBO. Personally, I think less and less of Floyd everytime he opens his mouth.I love how he thinks he is real, talks gansta shit and then rides a Bike better than Lance Armstrong, holds more than Ruiz, and ducks like Raheem. I hope Floyd does quit. Hbo DECIDED TO MAKE this fight. Floyd had nothing to do with it and in the ring he proved he will never be anything other than a super skilled piece of trash. The crowd booed that cunt something fierce. b

Maybe...in America. Only certain guys can fill a 20,000 seater in Europe and America, even Russia. Floyd isn't one of those guys.

Let see if Mayweather vs. Mosley do 600k-700K...then Mayweather is marketable...

I feel bad for Shane. He beat a better DLH in a much better way. He never really became a star. Floyd is twice the cunt and twice as boring.

Half the people in America voted for Bush... it wouldn't shock me that one half doesn't know how to score a boxing match.

I agree. Shane beat Oscar, and was back in ballrooms for his next few fights before Forrest took him out. Shane's just not the kind of guy who will grab a headline with a quote. He's too nice.

If more than 20 people voted for Bush it proves this country is filled with idiots. Steve's point stands.

I'm sure Oscar/Floyd didn't get quite as many viewers as the election got votes.

Don't blame the North, the fucking South, mainly Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennesee, North Carlina, South Carolina, Texas. These backward guntooting bible hugging confederate motherpluckers, they are the ones who should leave the union already, so we could have universal healthcare, hybrid cars moved by ethanol, and if they start anything, bomb the pluck out of Austin.

Floyd was one of the top pay-per-view fighters in boxing before he fought De la Hoya. Mosley was making his pay-per-view debut. You can't just walk in off of HBO and become a superstar based on one fight, especially if you follow it up by fighting Antonio Diaz, Shannan Taylor and Adrian Stone.
