Obviously, there are a lot of factors that are contributing to the slow death of boxing. But the biggest one in my opinion be the state commissions. What other sport is there, where government entities can control every aspect of the sport the way they do in boxing? They train the officials and judges, the criteria on which fights are judged, the time-keepers, size of the gloves, what kind of tape that is wrapped around the base of the gloves, the duration of the rounds, the number of rounds, and all other kinds of rules. New York has a 3-kd-rule, Nevada doesn't. If Pac and Marquez had fought in New York, Pac would've won by 1st round TKO just by virtue of the fight taking place in New York. What kind of bullshit is that? Imagine if the state of New Jersey decided that overtime in the NFL was dangerous, and could result in further injury and dehydration to the players, so any Giants or Jets home game that ends in regulation with no winner would be a tie game. That would be ridiculous. But in boxing it's the status quo. And people wonder why all the "governing bodies" are such a joke. Maybe it's because THEY DON'T GOVERN ANYTHING. All they do is spread shiny belts around and collect "sanctioning fees".
What's hurting boxing it's these SAFETY first boxers, who don't give a fuck about the paying public. In MMA, a fighter stinks out the place, he apologizes publicly and seldom comes back. If that was the case Floyd would be long gone. We want to see ACTION, punches thrown, not pot shots and one at a time.
