Well not quite, but Stinks is one pound over and has 2 hours to lose the extra pound.

    Taylor came in at 159.8

Now he is a coward outside the ring to say nothing of the putridness in which he "fights." JT should fight him anyway. All this tells me is Stinks came to lay down which is what he does normally, except he comes to survive.

Spinks has been bodybuilding and looked massive on the pic fightnews has on him over there.
He probably ate a big breakfast, but a pound can be taken off in the sauna easily and quickly.

Incredible... The smaller fighter is the one that can't make weight! I guess he tried to gain muscles... I wonder how much that will slow him down.

You bet it will slow him down.
I never beleived in mixing bodybuilding and boxing, and that is why now these guys gas after a few rounds as opposed to athletes of earlier eras that could fight all night if they had to.

That's a good explanation but I think part of it has also to do with the frequency of the fights. These guys fight way less often than the old timer used to.

I agree. Weight lifting and boxing don't mix.

:crafty: Taylor made weight and is replenishing while Spinks still has a lb or so to cut down, now I haven't seen any right hander look good against Spinks, but if he did pickup this muscle it's all the more better for Taylor as Cory couldn't crack an egg anyhow

Spinks is too big to be a middle-weight! He should be fighting as a Light Heavy-weight! All he did at 147 was beat on smaller guys.

big?? Maybe his head, but he's a blown up junior welter. He's as weak as a 10 year old girl with pneumonia.

Slight problems but Taylor, Spinks, Pavlik, Miranda make weight!
By JD Meredith at the scale
WBC/WBO middleweight champion Jermain Taylor weight in at 159.8 lbs. on his first try, but his challenger IBF jr middleweight champion Cory Spinks weighed in at 161, and had tp drop the excess weight. Spinks came back later and weighed 159.8. Middleweight Kelly Pavlik also weighed 159.8 on his first try, while Edison Miranda initially weighed "a few ounces over," according to promoter Lou DiBella. Miranda later came back at the division limit of 160. Due to the weight issues, the fighters never squared off for photographers. Also weighing in were welterweight star Andre Berto at 146 and Martinus Clay at 147.

I liked Shane much more pre-lifting weights. He threw punches in fast combos, not so much anymore.

Corrales and Castillo BOTH failed to make weight. I'd call it a Corrales now anyway, because he was the bigmouth when Castillo missed out...and turned around and did it worse still.

Anyway, Spinks made weight. These two didn't. Losing one pound is easy enough, IF you're not already dried out.

Spinks' being overweight was due to a scale discrepancy. He weighed 162 a week ago, and in order to make weight the second time around today, all he did was walk around the FedEx Forum for an hour. He was fine, came in 0.2 under on the second try.

Miranda was far worse. Muthafucka was "unofficially" SEVEN pounds over yesterday. Starved himself last night and today, managed to shrivel down to 160.6. Came back 90 minutes later, got down to 160.2 - Pavlik told him "lose the rest." An hour later, Mierda finally made weight 160 on the nose.

 @ the posters with "Miranda vs. Pavlik" in a super small font as if the fight is irrelevant. It should be the other way around.

    Sly:
Evander had Lee Haney the Mr. Olympia training him in bodybuilding, and had a medical staff: personal physicians, nutritionist, a personal trainer, chiropractor, masseur, ballet instructor, yoga instructor monitoring his every move.
He had the bankroll behind him, millions upon millions, he was hooked up to computers as he jogged on the treadmill and used the punching bands, and the genetics to do it with success as he had to build himself up from a lightheavy to heavyweight as that was where the money was.
He is the exception to the rule, and there will not be another one like him.

while i respect your opinion, i definitely disagree with this.

while i am an amateur fighter and boxer who does NOT lift weights...it definitely does more good than harm. lifting weights does not damage any fighter unless they do it incorrectly.

Weight lifting is beneficial, specifically to strenghten the fighter. But it all depends on the kind of workout you do. A bodybuilding routine like Mosley used to do is not good, unless you want to look pretty while a guy named Forrest mangles your ribs in the ropes. Holyfield, while being a almost bodybuilder, concentrated more in strenght and endurance as you can see the result in his fights.

i agree, but in the same sense you can do speed bag, heavy bag, floor exercises the wrong way too and mess yourself up.

its not that lifting weights is bad, its not knowing how to lift them that is bad

    Well put.
Weight resistance is fine with the pulleys (Jack Dempsey was the first heavyweight champion to utilize this and then, to a more broader audience due to his media hype, Max Baer) and bench press where your back is supported and it works the chest, deltoids, and other punching muscles is ok as long as a fighter does not overdue it with real heavy weights, but as far as bodybuilding goes, forget it!

REED you should know better. Muscle doesnt add power. Spinks will always be a feather-fist no matter how much he lifts. I dont think he can win either, but I HOPE he does! Fuck Taylor!
